The richest person I know is a vet. The family home is designer built and in landscaped grounds; the kids are all at v.expensive private schools, and they have some fabulous cars. The trick is to own and run your own surgery and not be an employee, making money for someone else. If I had my time again, that's the profession I would choose.

I'm struck by the number of people in public service here (me included) on the standard £21K, 30 days leave, plus Bank Hols, plus flexi, plus pension. Who is actually making money for the country to pay our wages? It does worry me a bit....

Lol - I wish I was on the standard 21k! Mine is a third of that but I do really love my job which I think is a bonus :rotfl:

59, just lost my job so will be on JSA which is not going to pay the mortgage, fuel and all the other regular bills - even if I master the art of living on practically nothing. :(.
I lost my (agency) job on a matter of principle and stuffed up references in the process. Beware, principles don't pay the mortgage! So it is not a matter of 'upping my income', it is a matter of 'getting an income' - likely have to be self employment. I'm here for ideas!
