I'm an assistant head at a large secondary school on £41k. Work approx 70 hours a week and about 25 hrs in the holidays. Love my job but still get the Sunday night feeling of haven't done my homework and by Friday I can't wait to sleep!
    July grocery challenge £161.25/£290

Expat airline Captain, approx £165k NET at current exchange rate. Very low tax rate where I am based, 10% pension contribution from company, cheap worldwide travel, good holidays. Often work long days/nights, can be extremely tiring and stressful work with lots of responsibility. Requires consistent study to stay sharp and up to date with everything. Earning potential pretty much maxed out this year.

Cost of living out here very high but still in a good place. I have to pinch myself when I get paid and try to remember how lucky I am and how its what I always wanted to do. I worked really, really hard for over a decade to get to where I am now but well worth it!

To give it some context, salary history (£Gross PA) since I started flying commercially:

    2015: £127K (Expat)
    2014: £111k (Expat)
    2013: £54k
    2012: £47k
    2011: £45k
    2010: £43k
    2009: £44k
    2008: £41k
    2007: £36k
    2006: £12k

That's after spending about £50k on training in 2004 to get started.

Worst year was working nights in a factory for about a fiver an hour.
    Debt: September 28th 2009 £0!!!!! Finally!
    [strike]March 30th 2008 £5,350[/strike]
    [strike]September 29th 2008 £7,800[/strike]
    [strike]January 1st 2007 £21,000[/strike] (Max debt)
Original DFD target was end Aug 2009
