I am lucky and dont think Im worth it compared to other job nurses, armed forces deserve far more ££. Also I dont like my job but sucked in by the £
  • 29, £6.76ph retail assistant for a major supermarket chain, come out w/ about £850-900 every 4wks. Benefits: Plenty overtime, 10% staff discount for myself and a nominated family member (handy for the weekly shop), and a pension and sharesave option.

Boring job and very unsociable hours, but a jobs a job and its allowing me to save plenty of money so I can hopefully go back to uni to retrain in physiotherapy.

    1. TK Maxx associate during school/uni... was on about £5 an hour by time I graduated in 2005 (Edinburgh)

    2. High School Computing/Maths teacher 2005-2011 £34,200 at the time of my resignation. Enjoyed teaching the kids, hated the other aspects of the job. No realistic promotion prospects as the local authority had replaced subject heads with faculty heads managing up to 4 or 5 subjects.... no thanks! (Lothian)

    3. Network Engineer (Security) for online arm of a major retailer £62,000 last year including a small bonus and some freelance work, can work from home, on-call pretty much 24/7 for my main employer, get to work with/for my best mate from university etc, can take work with me if I fancy a weekend away etc (Glasgow/London)

I miss teaching but the heart has really been ripped out of the job and morale is rock bottom.
  • Although should say my reason for leaving was financial as deep down, I enjoyed the job. When my classroom door was closed and I was getting left to teach, I was happy and got good results and helped to grow the computing subjects in the school!

Also ex secondary school teacher earned 35,000- left as became disillusioned.

Now earn £30 plus p/h doing private tutoring, marking etc & some consultancy work- around £400 a week for 12 hours but term time only.

OH works in media and earns £52,000- final salary scheme ended a few yrs ago but gets a few luxury trips and freebies.

Don't understand that one - you must get overtime or something of the sort - puts you significantly above £32k!

Guitarman, I help implement and operate our IT security programme. I had kept on top of qualifications (CCSP etc) whilst teaching and had done a fair amount of freelance and work experience during holidays- usually with old uni mates and contacts. It was a bit of a hobby.

I got my current post through a friend, I probably was not the best candidate on paper but he knew my ability.

Seriously??? What area? Surely ATC pays less in Scotland than near London, for example. I always heard it was a very stressful job. Might have to look into it......

    Its in NeverNever Land. ;)
