I have so far resisted the temptation to post my specifics but here goes.

26 years old, work in Finance.

    Pros :):
    - £38k basic (due to go up to £42k in the next few months)
    - (Up to) £8k annual bonus in reality it has never been more than £5k but perhaps this is the year?
    - £5k car allowance
    - Private healthcare & dental
    - Funded study and time off for exams
    - I contribute 7% to my pension, employer contributes 9%
    - 32.5 days holiday excluding bank hols and a few other corporate goodies.
    - Very good job security

I also get to work from home 4-5 days a week.

    Cons :(:
    - High-stress levels and a couple of times a month I will work until gone midnight.
    - I have lost all perception of what a "working day" really is.
    - It took 3 years of long days and slogging my guts out to get recognised.

I know how lucky I am, especially living in the North and I am also married to an amazing woman :A.

I'd give it all up to spend more time enjoying life with the ones I love.

  • I just relocated 200 miles to be near my family so I have. The real kicker is my wife who works a lot harder and much longer hours than I do. She is the one that I miss most!

Depressed - we have to be regulated and answerable for our mistakes (Fair enough! Couldn't agree more!!)

Takes from 2-3 years to train and qualify as a VN - during which time you may be unlucky enough to be on either apprentice wage, or student loans. I got £50 a week when I started out!

But for 13.5k a year, plus paying for our own professional body fees - RCVS, BVNA, BSAVA - makes me want to cry!
Hi tankgirl1, tell your tax office about your professional fees and they will adjust your tax code - you might even get a rebate if you write a letter with supporting evidence that you have paid them for a number of years. My friend's a nurse and got her professional fees (£76 to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and as nurses have to have some indemnity, got her professional body's subscriptions - CPHVA) backdated for 7 years. you can always ring the tax office and ask them if you're entitled to anything else - ie uniform laundering/uniform/allowances. They've been really helpful when I've contacted them querying my tax code and sorting out my friends situation as described above.

    :dance:Quidco Payments In 2011 - £724.21

    June: £43.15/July: £51.22/August: £90.60/September: £29.75/October: £284.07/November: £171.08/December: £29.22
