You can of course always choose to assign the debt to a private debt collector, a knock on the door might scare him into repayment, but i'd be inclined to try the courts first as if you win you can send real bailifs if he fails to pay who can seize his goods.0

The police are hardly interested in criminal matters never mind civil ones but yeah if you report it to them they'll either say its a civil matter or fob you off with a crime reference number.
If your bro posted a cheque to them then I suggest serving court papers on the address the cheque was posted to
Incidentally, an argos catalogue would contain a number of laptops probably (albeit pictures of them)0 -

Of course the sellers prints will be all over the packaging, from when he wrapped up the laptop!:pHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
a fraud was commited so the police may report him to his local police who if they get a few similar complaints will investigate.
The important thing is it adds weight to your claim if you reported the crime and can provide a crime number.0 -
Def not a civil matter, fraud is a criminal offence. Unfortunately it may be hard to get this to court. I'd suggest getting in touch with a solicitor/CAB & asking for some advice. What a horrible thing to do to someone!!!!.•

It's a civil dispute, the police wouldn't look at this. Not enough evidence.
it would be a case of he say this he say that, All you could do is perhaps contact the winner of the other laptop to see if he or she has received the goods and then if not contact Ebay to advise them whats happened, you won't get any sympathy off them as you went outside Ebay but they may ban the user ID...
Sorry to hear you been scammed, wouldn't wish it upon anyone0 -

I meant on the Argos catalogue though
Still wouldn't mean much. Argos catalogues are used for a very good reason, which I won't post on an open forum.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
