He/she clearly did not post in order to receive advice on their benefit situation so it's hard to judge whether they got what they wanted from the thread, isn't it?
Shame really, as they may have received very useful advice had they only asked...0 -
We are supposed to support each other here not pass judgement.
I know someone who had a similar experience at the job centre and decided not to go ahead with the claim (to which they were entitled).
Well done OP for finding a job even if its not what you want.0 -

I am a trained teacher - but just to get away from signing on I have accepted an office job. I haven't even received a penny in in job seekers allowance or housing benefit and council tax. If they dare cast this up to me years from now - even though I didn't get a penny - I will cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war.
Leviathan's post was to criticize the office workers who assessed her claim, complain that instead of signing on he/she had to take a job and lastly to make a threat.
As the most useful posters on here are these office workers it should be no surprise that they respond to criticism.
If Leviathan genuininely had a question these same office workers would have taken their own time to help him/her as that is why they post on here.0 -
I think the OP was letting off steam over a frustrating situation. My friend felt the same after a visit to the job centre. I don't think it is a personal attact on office workers just the job seekers system. Getting through on the phone is also difficult.0

You know Leviathan then do you and know that was his/her intent?
Is this board not meant to be about getting support and advice? Someone posting on the boards venting at their own situation, showing normal human emotions is so bad?
If it was actual threats in the JC office to a real person then understandable, but on a online forum, which claims to offer support and advice, aimed at no one person, that hurts nobody and allows the poster to get it out and feel better why so judgemental and attacking.
Again Quoted from Martin : This board is here for help and support for those on or looking to claim benefits, not for judgement.0 -
"I am a trained teacher - but just to get away from signing on I have accepted an office job."
The system has worked. It's been made difficult for someone looking to claim JSA and as a result they've had to, "shock, horror!" get a job, which it appears they wouldn't have taken (based on the above quote) had JSA payment kicked in on schedule.Bought, not Brought0 -

Again judgements, IF the op situation was anything like my DH or the rest of his graduating class they were desperatly trying to get teaching jobs. Applying on mass and often not able to apply due to the NQT as described above.
Because someone is applying for JSA and is reluctant to apply for jobs outside of their field does not mean they did not want a job or wanted to stay 'part of the system' or dependent on benefits.
If and when the OP or any other proffessional manages to secure a job in their chosen field, a field they have been highly educated in at no small cost, they will be paying a lot more tax & NI than accepting a min wage job at the JC insistance. A job where they will never meet the threshold to actually pay back their student loans.
On the other hand by holding out for their career choice they will be productive memeber of society and be able to pay back the student loans to the givernement, building up a pension and hopefully have no need for benefits in the future.0 -

It was one of the reasons why my DDs could not stay in their previous school - a teacher with very poor spelling. I do wonder now if she had dyslexia, and perhaps my complaints didn't help, so maybe English / spelling isn't a core skill when becoming a teacher nowadays
