So you think it is ok then do you Soolin for a large multi Billion pound company to ignore and replace the law in favour of their own terms and conditions even if it results in a loss to the average, non commercial, user.

Hell, why do we have a government at all, lets just have large companies decide the law according to what suits them best.

But you don't have to use ebay. It's a private members club essentially, for the trading of items. I do find it sad how many people come up against ebay and paypal rules without knowing they are there, (and alot of them do make no or little sense) but ebay can't win in this situation- they can't warn/tell very user about everything, it would make the site unusable. Even when they do warn people they don't always listen (there was a thread on here not long ago from someone who didn't seem to realise that they would be charged final value fees).
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

Well, you know, you don't HAVE to use it. You can sell at a car boot sale, ebid, gumtree, or an auction house. I'm sure others can think of more alternatives.

And I do sell and buy on ebay, and I do follow the rules, and I haven't had a single problem, so what's wrong with following the rules?

If certain people have no problem with paypal giving their money away at will that's great for them, i'm sure you will never have a problem with paypal either, they love people like you.

However some people don't like anyone giving their money away without their say so and if the company is ignoring/breaking the law then people should challenge such action.

I think some people miss the concept of this site, as i look to the top of my screen i see a huge banner with the title MoneySavingExpert.com, it's hardly great money saving advice to tell people they should be shutting up and letting paypal give away as much of their money as paypal see fit because "Paypal say it's the rules".....

unfortunatley im not so good with my comments etc.
you read on this forum all the time about people being chased for money years later after selling, and its not there fault.loads of horror stories.
you people seem to be completely blind to it.an ideal pay pal/ebay customer, foolish blind sheep.people that make it possible for the phrase "rip off britain " to be completely true.
the morral of the story,if the company breaks the law and so on"just dont use them" ,priceless.

Don't believe everything you read on forums. ;) There are such things as distance selling regulations, (actual law, not ebay rules) and while they don't apply to everything or everyone, they do make mandatory returns. This is why business sellers (such as Cyril, and indeed me) get so snotty about it. Other stuff that could lead to money being taken are credit card cover, which could happen if you were paid with then via any service, not just paypal.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I think the problem is what happens when the other party don't play by the rules. Lets say for example the OPs item had NOT been returned. is it simply his word against theirs?

Its the rules that put me off Paypal completely, I find myself searching specifically for sellers who are willing to accept alternative payments to Paypal, I like Ebay, but I cant sell items on it, why not?.......because I don't use Paypal.

Paypal should be optional for Ebay, just like Ebid, Gumtree or any auction house, as a cheque or bank transfer is just as secure as paypal, if not securer.
