Old pc used kodak to view photographs if thats any clue and can I get some sort of networking cable for faster data transfer?
yours hopefully
hi bud
do u get any error messages etc as usually its just a straight copy.
can you see your mem stick in my computer?
regards0 -
Memory stick shows as removable disc E: in my computer, there is a select all option within the kodak programme but not a transfer to disc/storage. It let me transfer a selection of pictures via a slide show option but when I tried them on laptop I had to install windows media player and it would only open them in a small slide show window which I then couldnt transfer to file in order to save.
surely i can transfer data from this pc to laptop? Its my Dad's laptop and he is driving me crazy about getting these pictures off the old pc, assuming as all senior citizens do that if you're under 30 you are born with IT knowledge lol I wish.0 -

What now happens is that when I try to use the disc on my current system it tells me that the disc is empty although I know the files were there and you can see the burn mark on the disc. i am so frustrated and don't know what to do. Thankyou
Download and install, Isobuster, it's FREE.
Recommended to me on this forum ages ago.
Run it, find your CD, it can show files not seen by Windows, read the help file, but it can recover the lost files.
Not relevant here, but it can also be used to explore .iso files.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Hi
I'm trying to install two hard-drives for backup purposes.
They both work and both are IDE (not SATA).
Now, when I connect them to the cable and power supply, the computer won't see the main drive (i.e. the one with the OS on it.)
I have used one of the drives before, but disconnected it as it was full (it was only, ahem, 7GB .... yes 7), but I now want to move everything onto the 80GB drive I've now obtained.
I've tried using jumpers on various settings and also tried just using cable select , both to no avail.
Any idea where I'm going wrong? I've got Windows XP Home SP3 as the OS.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Have you tried connecting the old 7GB hard drive on the secondary IDE channel? This would normally be occupied by your CD/DVD drive, but you can probably live without that for the backup period.I hate Royal Mail!0 -
Thankyou for that I have now downloaded the Isobuster which was free, it has found some of my files but to recover them it is asking me to pay.
The only thing I can think is perhaps you have a trial version of the Pro version or they have changed their terms.
I seem to remember that the files were shown in the RH window and I right clicked and selected 'extract'.
I've just tried it on a dodgy CD, when I selected 'extract' it did give a warning about "You've been using it for free", but I chose the LH button, not the 'obtain key' one, and was able to extract the file to my hard drive.
I suggest you try it again and see what happens.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Hi,
Assuming you are connecting both drives on the same IDE channel then the one you want to boot from one has to be set as master (via jumper(s) on the back) and the other as a slave. Assuming they are on seperate IDE channels then they should work O.K. on cable select.
Hope that helps . . . .0 -
nrg13 - tried on both cables. Whichever cable I use, the original drive on it disappears and the backup drive doesn't appear either.
angel00079 - I've tried all sorts of jumper settings on all 4 drives to no avail. Looks like it'll have to go to the shop and let them do it.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
