nrg13 - tried on both cables. Whichever cable I use, the original drive on it disappears and the backup drive doesn't appear either.

angel00079 - I've tried all sorts of jumper settings on all 4 drives to no avail. Looks like it'll have to go to the shop and let them do it.

    hi there

have you tried each drive separately? ie one at a time as a master. also are BOTH IDE controllers enabled in the BIOS / CMOS?

    regards

I've tried both drives, one at a time, by attaching them to each cable. The current setup has the HDD on one cable and the DVD on the other cable, so I have to assume they are.

OK do the drives appear when attached one at a time? Also disconnect the DVD drive and set the drive to the same settings as the DVD drive was. Just to verify that the drives actually work.

I've used one of the drives before and it worked back then. No knocks or anything (AFAIK) since it was disconnected. I've tried putting the drive on it's own cable and it seems to work OK (it appears as a drive).

Quick question - I have it as drive D: last time it was connected and moved the DVD to drive E:. The DVD is still listed as E: will that make any difference?

    hi there

thats gr8 u got it working. dont think the drive letter will make any difference unless there are any programs etc specificaly pointing to D:

In that case use disk management to change the drive letter

Sorry - must have mistyped that. It was working before I biconnected it. Now, when I reconnect it using the same settings, it doesn't want to know.

I think that's about the only option I haven't tried. I'll give it a go and let you know.

  • Memory stick shows as removable disc E: in my computer, there is a select all option within the kodak programme but not a transfer to disc/storage. It let me transfer a selection of pictures via a slide show option but when I tried them on laptop I had to install windows media player and it would only open them in a small slide show window which I then couldnt transfer to file in order to save.
surely i can transfer data from this pc to laptop? Its my Dad's laptop and he is driving me crazy about getting these pictures off the old pc, assuming as all senior citizens do that if you're under 30 you are born with IT knowledge lol I wish.

I have had to purchase a new system as my previous motherboard died on me. The problem I now have is that the files I had saved to disc from the old system are now not recognised. The old system had Roxio 8 on it. I have tried to get this on to the new system but have not had any luck. Can you suggest anything for me. Some of the files are quite important, my tax return! Thankyou
You recommended that I try to recover my files with Isobuster, but this download trial would not do the recovery without additional payment. I have since found a FREE download called "Diskdigger" which up to now has worked ok but very slowly. I thought I would pass on the information as you were so helpful to me. Thankyou.
