Love the way that they don't make any allowance for the huge environmental impact of disposing of the batteries from the hybrid cars. Or the fact that they are all less economical than a small diesel.
    Debt in 1993: £35,000 | Debt in 2006: £0 | Assets in 2006: £2.3m and counting. :j

Anything is possible with hard work, determination and the love of a good woman. :D

There is no upper, middle or lower class. Simply those that have class and those that don't. ;)

You can find your car's rating from Parkers. Enter the details, then click on your car!

You're looking for the "CO2 Emissions"

Be careful if you use this site - the details for my car show the emissions level correctly (as on my V5) but the old band and cost of tax disc.

The DVLA links earlier in this thread seem to be the most accurate. (Unlike the Chancellor's figures - don't know why he thinks 50% of cars on the road will have a frozen or reduced licence cost).

This just shows that car tax should be scrapped and put on fuel instead.

Someone doing low mileage in a high band car will be producing the same or less CO2 than someone in a lower band car doing higher miles.

The higher band resale values will now drop and the lower ones will rise meaning that the car can't be replace so they have no option but to keep it.
An excellent idea which has been around for many years.
I wonder why Gordon doesn't go for it.
The present system is very complicated and must take up a lot of Civil Servants' time to administer, which we pay for.
Have you noticed the PO clerks scrutinise and double check everything? One of them told me its because if they undercharge you they have to pay the difference personally!

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

    Surely this is wrong!
Why would you have to pay for the same month twice?

Because DVLA only work on 'complete months'.

If you surrender your tax disc today, the 1st complete month of refund will start from 1 April 2006. But if you buy a new tax disc, you will have to get one with a complete month including the day you buy it, i.e. starting from 1 March 2006.

I agree this is unfair and I only realise this when I changed my car before. This is also another way of making money from motorists by Gordon Brown!

But has anyone found a car that falls in Band A yet? ive searched everywhere and cant find a thing
Heard something on the radio today - apparently there's only 2 models in the world which would be band A and neither are imported into the UK.

Didn't really expect something for nothing from GB(H)...

    If you look in here:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4834480.stm

It gives 2 examples of cars that fall into Band A. I have personally seen a Honda Insight Petrol Electric Hybrid car in Doncaster town centre about two months ago.

It's a bit crap really though these new rules - what about all those cars exempt from VED because of their age? They'll be polluting more than any other car on the road.
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.
