  • I think if you can rent it out you could be onto a winner atm. There is absolutely nothing for rent where we are looking to go, unlike 3 months ago when there were loads. Also prices seemed to have risen dramatically & anything that comes on gets snapped up on the first day!! We are now seriously considering a travelodge & storage for our furniture - nightmare(before xmas - lol)

Didn't want to post anything until it was all sorted but we exchanged last Friday and complete on the 17th :)
We put the house on the Market late September despite the EA telling us we were wasting our time that close to christmas. Went on the Market on the Friday, first viewing Monday and an offer for full asking on the Tuesday and for 5k more than the EA advised us to put it on for!

It wasn't without stress I can assure you and I won't relax until I have the keys to our new house in my hand. I guess we were just lucky, our buyers had been looking in the area for a while and our house fitted the bill. We got a lot less than we initially thought before getting it valued but we have got the new house cheaper than it was a few years ago.

I don't think any house move is without its stresses! But well done for exchanging, you're nearly there...good luck with the rest of the days in between and for a smooth completion :)

    That's brilliant news, Spooky!

I have been lurking for a while, here is my story so far:

Tried to sell my 2 bed semi 2 years ago, started at 115k, eventually decided to rent it out for a while as the only offer I got was 103k which I refused.
2 months ago I tried again, putting it on with an independent local agent. At 99k I had zero viewings in 2 months so decided to change agents to a national chain whose fees were twice as much. The bloke from the chain had been phoning me throughout the 2 months with the other agent to see if I wanted to change over to them. I was quite impressed and thought if he was making that much effort with me then hopefully he would make that much effort to find me a buyer.

So last week I made the move and on day 2 I get a phone call to say I have had an offer! It's for 88k, which is slightly below the 90k that I was happy to accept, but I'm not going to lose a buyer by quibbling over 2k.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and if I had known 2 years ago that I would be selling for 88k then I would have grabbed that 103k offer and saved myself the hassle of renting it out for the last two years!

So I'm keeping my fingers, toes, eyes, arms and legs crossed that the sale goes through without a hitch and by the spring me and hubby should have enough saved to find a family home for us.

    Update:

We had submitted our fixtures and fittings etc, sellers info forms and additional enquiries. The buyer has had the survey done and I thought we were a week away from signing. Not so fast!! The buyer has pulled out due to 'personal reasons', the estate agent has assured me it is nothing to do with the house. So back to square one!

I can only be grateful that we aren't in a chain and therefore haven't lost our dream home or anything similar.

Oh no rotten luck pr9fer, I really hope you can find a replacement buyer soon...hate it when this happens :(

  • Hello! I've come to sign up to make you all feel better cos I really doubt anyone's house selling story is worse than ours. :rotfl:

Long story short - been on market for over 1.5 yrs.
    Two agencies - zero viewings.
    Reduced the price by 25K.

Accepted an offer from an investor - 37K under initial asking price.
They pulled out a day before exchanging contracts.
At the same time we were trying to buy a repo - obviously lost it.

Latest update - I heard our EA sold a house 100m from ours; smaller (by original measures), unextended, uglier (in dire need of a refurb) and more expensive.

SICK OF IT ALL. No further comments.
too foreign for diplomatic or PC answers, too poor for a sig
  • Been on market since around March and had our 1st viewing yesterday since being with a new agent for 2 months. Had a little feedback that they liked the inside but were not keen on the front of the property, they did state this with the agent before viewing. The other 2 properties they have seen are not suitable from what i have been told and they are looking to move to my area. Not many 2 bed room bungalows around here and certainly not for 137k which is what we are on for having reduced from 149k in March, i'm keeping my fingers crossed she may come back with an offer.
  • What happens if it is really snowy on moving day ? I'm getting worried that we wont be able to move out in time & be stuck here - just wondered if there was some penalty.
