We're hanging on in there - just had (another) viewer who liked our house but is relocating and hasn't decided whether or not they want to move to this town or somewhere completely different within about a 20 mile area!

I'm starting to notice that other houses which have been on a similar time to us without selling are being deleted from Rightmove, so we aren't the only people getting frustrated. In our area, it seems that cheaper houses are selling, or posh period houses, but in the middle there just aren't enough people trading up or down to get chains going so hardly any viewers are proceedable.
  • This thread's slowed down a bit!!

Finally - 9 weeks after accepting an offer - we had a valuer around yesterday, so maybe things are finally moving. The only problem is that our buyer said they wanted in by middle of November but as we havent been hearing anything from them, we havent even started looking for somewhere to go - was going to wait until exchange for that. Now I'm getting worried about packing up 18 years of stuff, finding a new home (rental only) & sorting a school out for my youngest (eldest is already at a school & commuting daily since Sept).
DH says I'm getting ahead of myself if I try to talk about it, but I'm really worried that after hearing nothing for a couple of months we'll suddenly be expected to move out with little notice, so I'd like to start things off now. But he is so superstitious we're not allowed to do anything, talk about the future etc just in case!
    The stresses of moving.
  • Just had EA phone. Got my first viewing of my house lined up for Sunday. 1st viewing since it went on the market 5 weeks back! Fingers crossed!!!

Well the buyer's sol has just got back today with a huuuge list of enquiries (18 of them!!!). Some are fine but some are just cheeky. A few issues to do with pickiness over the lease wording etc and wanted deeds amended/added which I hope isn't going to be an issue. The other stuff is a list of defects picked up in the survey which I totally disagree with. says it all that I stayed off work yesterday to let a contractor in who confirmed the 'defects' were incredibly minor and exaggerated by the survey. The buyer hasn't even waited for this quote before their sol fired off a letter! Feel like contacting a chain breaking company or letting out the flat and continuing with the purchase - so angry at the buyer. However I know that sols try their luck sometimes and it is not always the buyer. Never ever again buy a leasehold - they are a huge pain.

so we're making an offer today. 5k under asking price, but the front needs work and it needs new windows. the maths seems to be working on renting our current house out. it's a gamble, but one we're prepared to make. if they dont accept, we'll just have to see, maybe increase a little but can't go much higher without risking the whole thing. eek!

We had an offer accepted on a house last week. Unfortunately the vendors still haven't found anywhere but we will give them a little while before we start to rush them.

I don't mind if it takes a while as long as it goes ahead as I really like the house. Mind you, I am getting emails every day with price reductions so, even if it doesn't work out, there will be something else round the corner.
  • so we exchanged last week and we have a completion date of Friday November 12th. Our buyers just would not budge on that date and threatened to pull out completely!
(we aren't buying the place we found anymore 'cos the survey highlighted "severe structural movement" and said it was in danger of collapse!)
we are hopefully going to rent (submitted all the forms on a flat we saw at the weekend)
cheap and cheerful little flat overlooking the canal (we're putting all our furniture into storage) we are assuming that we probably won't find anything in the next 4 months anyway so we are hoping the 6 months minimum isn't too much of a problem.

Hope everyone else is not getting too stressed!

It was really hard for us - especially being given only 2 weeks to find somewhere. But we have to focus on the positives - mainly that it puts us in an excellent position when finding somewhere (ie no chain)
Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional :j
  • Congratulations!!

We should be exchanging this week - fingers crossed - and also have only 2 weeks to find somewhere to go to. I'm really dreading that part esp as we're not moving locally. But as long as we sell, I dont really care, we'll just make it all happen when/if we get exchange.:)

Two weeks should be fine to find a rental, if your credit scores etc are OK. We took exactly 24 hrs from looking to deciding, and we had two cats, two ferrets, a daughter who needed an art studio and a mountain of inherited stuff, so a garage + spare room of Tardis proportions were essential. We saved £165 a month on storage, and by paying 6 months up-front, another £100 on the rent.

As a buyer in a market like this, the benefit of being in rented, with cash in the bank, cannot be overstated. It may be a pain in the posterior, but I bet you find it well worthwhile. :)
