Gosh been reading this thread the last few days - and people are saying the property market is on the rise??

We have committed ourselves to marketing our house for sale early next year/early Spring. It's currently let and we have served notice to our tenant - yikes! Long story but we are in rented ourselves and want to buy somewhere for our family to settle/stay long term. Unfortunately our house, which we rented out 8 years ago because of moving with my DH's job, isn't big enough or in the right area for my DD's school otherwise we'd move back in there!

I know we are going to have a rather large expense getting it ready to market too which is depressing but I guess if you rent it out, you have to expect some expense. The thing is, we've rented the last 8 years (or most of it) and we've always given property back immaculate!!

I really hope it sells quickly but I'm not so sure reading this thread - sorry that sounds depressing! The thing is the new place we live (about 10 miles from our house) seems to be in a mini boom - things sell in 24 hrs if decent!!
  • If its any consolation Hopejack our house went on the market last Friday and after several viewings and three offers, we accepted an offer for full asking price yesterday. Less than a week! Just got to keep fingers crossed that it all goes through ok now, lol!

    Hello guys!
    How are you all?
I have put in an offer on a house, its a doer uper, and not fantastic but could be quite nice, and its at a price that we can do without a mortgage which is the main thing, as DH has recently gone self employed and therefore we cant get a mortgage!

Wow, that's great news. All power to your elbow! :T

Will keep everything crossed for you.

Buying... We went through the bungalow, and then the semi in the preservation area, and are now on to a semi with a big garden about 200 yards (?) from where we currently live... It's a doer uper too, so we won't be putting our home of 36 years on the market until we can move in. And that's when I'll be officially back on this thread! ;)

It's great to hear from you again, and I'm wishing you luck with your purchase.

We were supposed to have a viewing last Thursday at 7p.m.

Thursday morning DH drives me to A and E as it hurt to breathe. Had x ray then tests as it looked as if I had blood clot on lung so they started injections on my stomach to thin the blood and admittted me to hospital.

After a CT scan on Friday it turned out I had a blood clot on each lung and pneumonia on each lung so ended up with daily injections, antibiotics, Warfarin and an oxygen mask.

Viewer phoned to cancel at 3p.m. that day as he was not well but was still "really interested in the house!" He will phone EA some time next week.

I got back home the other evening after a week in hospital and don't care if we get a viewer ever again, just grateful DH got me to hospital and doctors were as proactive as they were.

Have agreed with DH that we will not race round tidying this time and have me stressed and exhausted - he will have to take us as he finds us.

It's funny, but I was just thinking before dinner, 'Wonder where Pawpurrs has gone?' I came back & here you are!:j

Lovely to hear you have found something which will make you mortgage-free. Doer-uppers are obviously the thing to buy, as three of us 'Part One originals' have interests in them now!

Keep us posted. We'll keep sending positive thoughts in your direction.;)

Goodness, elona, just read your post. You have been in the wars. It isn't the way any of us would wish to gain enlightenment, but when something like that happens, it brings things sharply back into perspective.

Serious viewers won't have any problems seeing your home's strengths if it has less of a show-home look. To be blunt, though I'm always hearing about 'staging,' de-cluttering and so on, I can't recall viewing many properties where it looked like these things had occurred, big time, and the most perfect ones scared me by seeming rather too lovely for our family's humdrum everyday life.:o

Focus on getting well. I'm sure all here will join me in wishing you a speedy recovery.;)

    Thanks Davesnave

I am getting so laid back I have been resting and letting DH cook etc- he is getting a bit scared at my not interfering.

When I told him he had done such a good job getting me to hospital quickly that it did not matter if he never did another thing right for years - he went pale poor guy!:p

  • pink-butterfly - my Mum sold hers in 10 days back in July too and there are loads of sold signs around here but it just seems 'overall' not that great! Fingers crossed yours goes through OK.

Elona - really sorry to hear about you being ill, what a shock - I had a similar thing a few months back - also had pains in my legs so GP referred me to hospital same day (bit worrying when you are sitting there in the surgery and told to go straight to hospital!) - fortunately it was just a severe chest infection that wasn't going away (not sure what the leg pains were lol!). Rest up, you'll need it!

Glad to hear some positive stories on here too :)

It does seem a long hard slog for most people though. My Mum is still looking for a house and I've been to see a few with her, some houses look great, tidy/showhome etc and some are unbelievable. Went to see one week before last and my god, there was stuff everywhere - empty coke cans littering the floor, dog pooh - oh I could go on - my Mum was almost sick when we left!!! I mean please, do they think they are going to sell like that - house was empty - owners had emigrated apparently - obviously in a huge hurry!!!

The biggest thing I have a problem with is visualising the size of a room by the measurements - even equipped with a tape measure! It's so hard to see how big it will be - I'm always disappointed by the 3rd bedroom in a 3 bed house, most are like boxes!

Good luck to those still trying to sell :)

Well not quite mortgage free will require a loan of 30k or so with the money required to do it up, and thats from my dear old dad, who remortgaged last year, but found he didnt need the funds after all. But thats currently at 1.5% so hope to pay that off in just a few years, not agreed a price yet we are still toing and froing........ So it might not all come together. We shall see.
Thanks for all the well wishes, and fingers crossed for all of you still to sell:o
You will all get there, believe me!
    Pawpurrs x ;)
