just my personal choice as a way of eating

and i also found i was utterly obessed with food when trying to do WW as i was never satisfied and always hungry

    Me too!!

I always obsess about food, what I am going to eat and when I am going to eat it. I have found with the Atkins that this has all gone and it's great.

    Eggs again I'm afraid
But have you tried making thin omelettes like pancakes?
You can cut them in strips to bulk salads out, or use them like wraps.

Lots of low carb recipe ideas here _

it is an american site but has some really useful stuff on it.
have you tried black soya beans for bulking?? You can get them canned in some health food shops, they are high fibre, protein and relatively lower in carbs than other pulses or green soya beans. worth a try.

I thought about this overnight and the issue is you shouldnt NEED bulk with low carb, high protein diet. When I did atkins, I did the high fat thing at first, but then reduced the amount of fat used, ( spraying oil, using v little butter etc) and stuck to the proteins instead.

A smal piece of chicken/fish/ with some grilled veg or salad leaves doesnt look much , but I can barely even finish my current "meal" and definately felt the same on atkins with my mushroom omelettes. Another option is stuff like egg foo yung style meals. Sushi too if that interests you ( not for me im afraid!) In the back of the atkins book there are recipes using soya flour for baking instead of wheat flour, available from health food shops apparently.

In the maintainence phase of Cambridge Diet , theres a limit of 40g brown rice/ basmati rice/ brown pasta etc per day. At the end of the day once you have used up the energy reseves stored in the fat you are carrying ( if you are doing low carb to lose weight) then your body DOES actually need it. Ive got about a stone to go, then after that I know I will have to have carbs, for energy, otherwise starvation mode will strike and this is not good for health at all. With this in mind 30g of carbs for you the whole day seems a bit too low  have you found any medical advice on this?

The whole methodolgy of high protein is that not only is it filling in the belly when it hits, but it takes such a long time to digest you dont feel hungry and dont need those bulkers. the more carbs you have the more you want, which I presume is why Ive been eating like a horse for the past 10 years! if you dont have them you wont want them!

I am the same, low carbing is amazing for me too, i feel just fantastic, much lighter, happier in myself and bags more energy. I dont fall asleep on the sofa staright after dinner now, which I always did after my usual OS meals.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

like i said ive been eating this way for just over a year now and its not a diet its just my personal choice as a way of eating

as an aside tho - why do you think my way of eating isnt healthy ??

Sorry if I implied your way of eating isn't healthy - I meant rather that the triad of things I described (cheap, easy and healthy) are more easily obtained on other diets in my opinion. I never got on with WW either, for what it's worth!

    Good luck!

@ lnyz - yes your right actually but i still make casseroles and chillis and the like - all low carb but if there was any way to bulk them would always be a bonus

im actually in the process of cutting down the fat a little - ive plateaued somewhat for a couple of months so am tweaking again

i find if i head towards 50g i cant stay in ketosis and i still have about 10lbs more to lose

due to my tweaks my wieght loss has been very slow and sedate and thats how i wanted to do it from a personal level - roughly a stone in a year - but thats fine for me

also i dont actually eat high protein - but i do eat protein at all meals
im not one of these atkiners who eats 3 steaks in one sitting !!! but i know you werent suggesting that ;)

i get all my energy from fat and thats what i burn for fuel and why its still ok to have a low level of carbs so long as you have the fat element - its very hard to low carb and low fat at the same time - i wouldnt want to !!

    @ annie - thanks :)

hi from another atkinser.. i agree with annie i dont feel the need to have the bulk now and eat far smaller meals and get more full

having said that some suggestions for you

shredded french beans instead of spaghetti (the low carb pasta mentioned above is still high in carbs)
fry up radishes in place of saute potatoes
i use aubergines in place of lasagna for layering
moolis roasted in place of potatoes
u can make cauli rice tho i havent tried it

i am sure i will think of more but thats a start.. also do u make the lowcarb instant bread??

nice to meet some other people not slating atkins

oh good ideas - i use shredded courgette in place of spaghetti and also in lasange

i like mashed creamed celeriac instead of mashed potatoes too

no i dont have any bread substitutes but i do have a couple of crackerbreads once a week maybe - 3.8g each just for the crunch !!

just to re-iterate - i dont feel i need any bulk as i too am very satisfied from my meals but it would be nice to bulk out those meals so instead of serving 4 they maybe served 6 if that makes sense ???
