Im on cambridge diet at the moment, and that long term low carbing.
Im only on the first stage tho, so i cna only have a small meal ( not really a meal, couple of tablespoons of selected veg and a couple of Oz white meat/ fish etc)
first moneysaving port of call is of course drink plenty of water, you are usually hungry because you are thirsty and a good few litres of corporation pop will definatley keep hunger at bay.
Secondly, if its atkins, or similar, stick to those high protein foods you can have- cheese isnt expensive and nor are eggs. I did atkins for a while and I really stuck to these. Pollack is cheap too, as are other fishes, so I recommend those. Protein is tremendously filling.
the permitted veg for me on cambridge are mushrooms, courgette, marrow, spinach, salad leaves, turnip tops, fennel i think, asparagus. I have taken to cutting courgettes into chips" and doing them in a hot griddle pan, they are really nice done like that. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
i tend to stick to around 40-50g a day but would like to be nearer 30g !!!
i was a chef b4children and have a nutritional qualification hence my own tweaks
i also use oline carb counters to check things out - been eating this way for around a year now
@ vixtress onions and mushrooms are surprisingly carby actually - i nearly always use spring onions for everything even cooking as they have a lower carb count
have never gone down the low carb alternatives route as wanted to re train my way of eating so didnt really want to do substitutes per se if that makes sense
thanks for your help ladies:j MFi3 wannabee :j

Mushrooms are predominantly water tho, im quite surprised if they are carby and allowed on the cambridge? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

its because you have to use so many of them as they do cook down that makes the carb count higher
i do use them in cooking all the time but wouldnt want to use half a punnet or anything
around 4g of carbs:j MFi3 wannabee :j

to completely do away with carb in veg is going to be dificult. they contain natural sugars and complex carbs in any case.
I suppose thats why IM only having 2 tablespoons per day. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

It will be virtually impossible to bulk-out meals and do low-carb.
If you do virtually any other sensible slimming diet though, it will be cheaper. easier and healthier and you'll be able to eat all the nutritious rich veg you want! Is there a particular reason you need to be low-carb?
Don't mean to be critical, it's absolutely your choice, it's just a difficult thing to do!0 -
like i said ive been eating this way for just over a year now and its not a diet its just my personal choice as a way of eating
i eat good protein - not loads as ppl are led to belive where atkins is concerned
i eat good fats eggs diary and low carb vegggies and salad
i eat berries and some melon and i also eat nuts and seeds
i enjoy the way i eat very much - it controls my blood sugar levels so i never get those afternoon slumps or sugar rushes and i always feel satisfied and never that horrible craving feeling which leads to boredom eating
i have tonnes of energy - much more so than when i tried WW - and i also found i was utterly obessed with food when trying to do WW as i was never satisfied and always hungry
anyway - yes its all about horses for courses at the end of the day
angie - i use 3 different ones and kind of go for an average but fitday.com might be useful as its a way of compling and keeping records of everything you eat and drink and once you have built a database - all your info is there
these are the ones i use tho

as an aside tho - why do you think my way of eating isnt healthy ??:j MFi3 wannabee :j

I do Atkins - I don't spend a lot of money on mealtime although my dp and 2 ds don't low carb.
I love broccoli, mushrooms and cauli and tend to have them to bulk my meals out. Freezer is full of frozen veg and berries. Also I have found that my appetite has decreased.
Tesco's do a frozen mediterreanean veg with a garlic and oil sauce on it, like a bag of frozen broccoli but you bung it in the oven instead of the pan. It's 5g carb per 100g but is a nice alternative to have on standby.
For a really cheap dinner I have a huge omelette with mushrooms, peppers and onions and a sprinkle of cheese.
