Hi everyone and thanks for the warm welcome.

I think I will mention to DH about taking abit more time off, he has said he can get his mum to mind Darach while he's woring but that just seems like a cop out to me, surely other mums manage babys and toddlers somehow and I have my 8yo daughter Sharon helping me out.

    Sls ((((Hugs))))

Searching, my washing machine is knackered as well, i've been searching the internet as we're practically skint as well. Im looking at one on Tesco at £175 with free delivery, but its probably really basic.

Aww MM thats so nice of you :o

    Darach is pronounced Dara
    Cliodhna = Clane-a
    They are both Irish

I know I had more to say but cant remember now especially after typing this out while BF at the same time :rotfl:

I don't think it's a cop-out. Imogen will still go to nursery one day and MIL's one day (reduced from the current two) when baby arrives. Just because others do it doesn't mean you have to. Why not start sending Darach every other week? Or look for some kind of group he could do with MIL (which is what Imogen does on a Monday am). It will be good for him to still have some 1-on-1 time with an adult in his life.

Don't feel bad if this is the route you choose.

Example of our recent sleep problems - last night (our last night in California, we fly back tonight). He turned 11 months old on Sunday.

At bedtime, he is showing major signs of tiredness and is clearly ready
OH BFs him til he is very passive and heavy-lidded on the boob, and repeatedly drifting off
I take him and cuddle him, he is eyes-closed passive on my chest
I lower him into cot he IMMEDIATELY starts screaming and wriggling, gets to knees then standing position, and keeps screaming.
I leave him 2 minutes, then go and pick him up and cuddle and rock him for a few minutes, but he won't stop screaming and crying (and still showing all his tiredness signs of course). I put him down again.
We leave him 10 minutes, he is by now exhausted of the top-end screaming but is still trying, still standing in cot, and OH BFs him lying down in bed.
He gets heavy-lidded and passive again, I lift him into cot he falls asleep.

He wakes very upset at 1.30am; OH BFs him, I put him back in cot, he sleeps.

He wakes very upset at 4.15am, I try giving him a minute to re-settle but he climbs to standing and starts screaming again. I get up and rock him and soothe him and sing to him. At first he keeps screaming, after a few minutes he calms a bit but is very wriggly and keeps trying to pull himself out of my grip, after about 10 minutes he is passive and eyes-closed. I lower him into cot, he starts screaming and wriggling. I pick up rinse repeat, and again a third time.
By this point it's been about 30 minutes, a lot of which time he has been screaming his lungs out which I am pretty sure will have my FIL awake and his tenants downstairs, and we put him back on BF.
After 20 mins on BF he is still awake and upset by being taken off it, I rock him and soothe him for 5 minutes, he goes passive, I lower him into the cot, he starts crying feebly and wriggling, I pat his bottom rhythmically for 2 minutes, he is still and eyes-closed, but before I make it back under the covers he screams again, I pat his bottom for another 5 minutes, he sleeps.
    He gets up at 6.20.

The screaming and immediate upset even when he is basically 90% asleep when going into the cot has been making us second-guess every little reaction trying to decide if he might actually be sick or have a pain somewhere, but alll the rest of the time he seems totally fine so I just don't think that's it, I think it's "just a phase"!

Sorry :) As per the recent pages I know others have worse times (and when he was younger he did wake a lot more frequently), but I am pretty grumpy this morning so I just wanted to rant without having to be to my OH ;p

I was slightly cheered by a couple of people's gorgeous baby pics :) Feelie, Toby seems to have really strong character already don't you think? He really looks like an expressive person, not "just another baby". And r.mac, I really love Annabel's contemplative look, it's almost... who'm I thinking of... not the Mona Lisa... but anyway :p

Bruno - big hugs. Hope you've managed to enjoy your holiday. I know others take a more relaxed approach but I'd so be going cold turkey on the BF & midnight cuddles when you get home. It sounds more like a habit he's got into, esp the bit I've highlighted. Almost like if you'd dug in and left him to it at that point he'd have given in and gone off by himself - eventually!

Feel free to ignore me - and I know how hard it is when you're staying somewhere that isn't your own home and don't want to wake people - but as long as you reinforce his demands by giving him what he wants (cuddles, BF, whatever) he'll continue to think it's worth 1) waking in the night and 2) screaming when he's put down. It all comes down to a battle of wills (and with the most single-minded toddler ever born, I know!). You just have to be prepared to win. At what point you make that decision is up to you.

Again, New Toddler Taming by Christopher Green might be a good read for you. It's aimed at parents of kids from 18 months (so a bit late for me) but the techniques might give you some ideas so if/when you decide to tackle the waking you have a battle-plan. I still found it really relevant, even though Imogen is over the worst of toddler-dom right now.

And Sls - he may not be behind. I bet he's taking loads in, just not letting on, little beggar! The book is more about techniques for you, so your child's ability or developmental stage doesn't really matter.

DH will be out at the incident until at least 8pm (an improvement from the early hours at least) but luckily one of Imogen's fairy godmothers is in the area so is going to come for tea (and will get recruited into helping with bathtime as I'm finding it hard to life madam in and out of the bath).

Better get out of my slummy mummy clothes and get ready to collect her from nursery...

    Hope

how do you get alittle boy to poo?? its like he keeps trying then cant be bothered and goes back to sleep x

my HV suggested cycling her legs - gently push her knees to her chest and down again rythmically. It makes my wee one giggle and usually I see a result a little while later. less messy too!
I had my 6 week post natal today... The Dr asked me how I was... I burst into tears... Think it's just hormones, I don't think it's anything serious... She told me to go back if I reached the point where I wasn't sleeping / eating / going out... Don't imagine it will get that bad... She asked me about contraception, I told her I wanted a coil... She told me to wait until I have a period then book in with the nurse... I asked what I should do if I don't have a period... She said wait 3 months, then do a pregnancy test to make sure then book in with the nurse... Does that sound right to anyone? Seems a long time to wait to me... Hubby won't be very pleased lol... Might google it...
    ...

emmm, my LO is 5months old and I've not had a period yet:confused: does this mean I should be worried? there is no chance that I'm pregnant;)

bruno - you poor thing! I feel your pain. That's hard work. You sounds like an amazing daddy though - all that bottom patting and rocking back and forth at all hours. I'll let you know if this book I've ordered turns out to be any good. Best of luck with the flight home.

I live just up the road from the actual comet clearance shop, it's rubbish! E went in looking for a cheap tumble drier a couple of months ago and the reduced prices were only £20-£30 off the rrp and they were all high end expensive ones... We ended up getting washer and drier from 123electrical, they were the cheapest brand new ones...

Sami, I don't even know where family planning is in my town! Can understand them being more competent though, they must do it week in week out... I shall investigate...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
