This may be a fantastic deal to have when abroad. I was really excited when I saw I could send 300 texts and speak for 100 minutes for a tenner abroad. But what about people in this country? I assume they'll still have to pay stupid rates to text abroad (replying to texts) and receieve calls and texts. (Is this even the case? I was told it was, but am not 100% sure now) .So what's the point if they are going to have to pay loads too?

Is the above true? Or do they miss out on the extra charge too? (No matter what network). It seems unclear, either that or I'm being an idiot.. ahem

Calls to a UK mobile from the UK cost the same wherever it is in the world, ie UK rates.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure. I'll be sure to correct my dad who always seems to think that if somebody abroad calls him he has to pay a connection fee.

So basically this passport thing makes it 100% like calling UK mobile to UK mobile with no extra fees for any person, caller or receiver. Pretty cool then.

    Cheers

Just to add that it is also free to receive texts anywhere in the world if you have a UK sim. Some people think you are charged but this is not the case.
The art is not in making money,
    but in keeping it!!!
  • I just rang Vodafone to check if Vodafone family is included. I was told that calls from abroad will be charged at the normal tarrif for ringing numbers not in your family group (in my case the Simply price plan would be 20p/minute), texts will be 29p, and it will cost my other members of my Vodafone Family group 89p/minute to ring me.
I will save the 75p/call connection fee.

what a shame they dont include the Vodafone Family tarrif in this. It would have been very useful to me and my family this summer. We love Vodafone Family:T

Vodafone don't seem to have a list of all partner networks on their site, so you might need to ring 191 to check before you go - mostly it's another Vodafone but may not always be.

All Vodafone Passport partner networks can be found by using the wizard on this page:
    http://www.abroad.vodafone.co.uk/index.cfm

Don't forget to tick the 'I also have: Vodafone Passport' box.

Don't get too excited about this alleged saving (unless I've got it wrong that is!). I've been on the Passport scheme since its inception, phoning home regularly from my boat in France. A five minute call to my mother on Saturdays used to cost one pound: 75p connection charge plus five pence/minute off-peak rate. Looking at the new details, a five minute call (admittedly at any time) will cost one pound: 20 pence/minute x five minutes. When the promotion finishes my call will cost £1.75.........
    Who's conning whom?

It sounds like you may have moved from your old tarriff which had 5p/min off-peak calls to the new 'Simply' tarriff. This new tarriff was not mandatory to move to when Vodafone introduced it recently.

Are you sure you are not still on your old tarriff which had 5p/min off-peak calls? (e.g. Smartplus). If so, when the promotion finishes then it will still cost you the same as before...

Oh, I got the impression that texts will be at your standard UK rate (i.e. 10p) - see here.

Presumably it will cost other members of your Vodafone Family group 89p/min to ring you if they are also in the same foreign country as you. Otherwise if they are back in the UK it will cost them their standard UK rate to call another Vodafone mobile?
