I am losing the will to live with select specs. I have been waiting for one pair of specs since JUNE! I have been in constant communication with them and they say they have now dispatched a THIRD pair and I have had to fill in 2 non delivery forms. I would rather have my money back since I will be due another eye test soon. I only wanted a cheap second pair but it's been nearly 6 months now. Can I get a refund via my credit card? Their terms and conditions are awful. I think Martin should remove any recommendations from the web site since it was only cos I trust it that I ordered them in the first place.

How much would you pay to advertise instead of spamming?

I don't sell specs for anything like £8. It was a genuine question as I am tempted to shift some stock cheaply before new year. And if I posted to that effect would it be spamming? This is a money saving site after all!

As for anyone noting that my sig has been deleted I would like it to be known that it did not contain a link to any commercial site but to a chat forum (and not one which conflicts in any way with this one).
This sig has been left intentionally blank. ;)

You obviously didn't read the site rules when joining:
Probably not but then they have probably changed since 2006 anyway!

Looking a few posts up it appears pdmuk is happy to pay £15 for a pair of specs delivered quickly.
I am not offering anything for sale that could compete with the offer detailed in this thread but if it transpires that more people would be willing to pay a little more for something quicker and possibly better quality then I might put something together but obviously will put it to the board admin for their approval first.

Am I still spamming? I prefer to think of it as market research but ultimately hope I can make a few quid for which I am not ashamed.

So my original question, 'How much extra would people be prepared to pay to know their specs were made by a UK company, and get them within days?' stands and I would appreciate feedback.

  • Just to add my expereince with the company has so far been a good one. I'm wear contact lens almost all of the time, but always have a spare specs for when I take off contact lens before bed time etc. My puppy decided to chew it to bits, so I've to get new ones without wanting to fork out ££s in the high street stores, so got a half price eye test voucher from boots, paid £10 for an eye test and ordered thru selectspecs. I've read through all the comments on here before ordering so I was well prepare for the delays and mistakes etc..to my suprise, 3 of the glasses that I ordered all arrived on time as it suggested on their email and I'm so impressed with the quality considering really how cheap it is (I chose the £5 ones)

So really, I guess it must be hard to co-ordinate a business across miles away to get it right all the time, so if you're in no hurry whatsoever, it is worth giving it a try without expecting too much?!

Update: specs arrived today ironically the day after I had an email from select specs to say there would be a long delay in delivery! HOWEVER they re not the ones I ordered!!!
  • Hi,

I ordered 2 pairs back in October. I was told they were shipped on 27th October and they have taken the money on my credit card the day the order was placed. I emailed them as they still have not been received. It took them over a weel to reply and they ahve stated that due to Christmas there is a huge postal delay in Hong Kong! In October?

Will just have to sit and wait...................not happy
  • Dear Hoodie55

If you are thining of the section in the consumer credit act then no as the item needs to be at least £100.

    Sorry

I ordered 2 pairs of the £5 glasses with the insured delivery so total £17.50. The website was quickly updated at each stage and I ordered the 30 Oct and they were shipped on the 7th November. Both arrived together on the 17th November

I ordered my on 27th October and STILL not arrived :(
