I presume from the way that you ask that he's in the campus accomodation. If so then they will put tha ton his account yes, and then he just pays in when he gets his loan. to avoid any misunderstandings its best to talk to either Student Union Rep, or someone from Finance just to be safe. Should be able to either Email them or if close enough make an appt.
Good Luck

My niece will start her degree next month. I'm not sure of her status regarding her nationality. She was born in England, she has an NI number, but due to her father chasing work in different countries she has lived in both Germany, and for the last seven years, the Republic of Ireland. For the past two months she has been living in England with her aunt in rented accomodation, paying Council Tax and rent to the Council, and is classed as a tenant. She has an Irish passport.
All the family will be moving to England within the year.
What is her status regarding nationality?
On another point, the enrolment form she has to complete asks: "What is your country of domicile? (Where have you lived in the last 3 years?)" - I was under the impression 'domicile' was a legal term and wasn't defined only by where you lived for the last three years.
Is there some definitive resource that defines nationality, domicile, and other such terms?Niemand0 -

I'm pretty sure that your niece will be classed as an EU student as she hasn't been living in the UK for the last 3 years. Her nationality doesn't come into it.0 -

Also, if I start paying again now, will I have to clear all those arrears or will I just carry on paying as usual but for a longer period? I can't find anything on the internet about people in the same situation as me!
When you started your new job you should have informed them on teh p46 that you have a student loan. This, in turn would have menat that they would have been aware of their obligation to pay on your behalf.
That said, you won't get penalised as such however it just means that you've paid a good bit more interest on your loan than you would have (but have also had the benefit of the money which you would have paid to HMRC /SLC)0 -
I'm also a bit worried about rent. DS booked accommodation and the form implied that the first £200 was due by 01/08, then the first half of the year by end of Aug. We ticked the box to agree to this and are using our credit card as DS hasn't had any money yet. Have we made a mistake doing this? It sounds as though we should have just let them wait for the money, but we were worried that he might lose his place if we didn't pay up front.
I also wondered if anyone can offer any advice on the Disabled Students Allowance? DS has applied as he is severely dyslexic but we haven't heard anything yet. Should we just go ahead and get what we think he needs now, or wait and see what the uni says he needs?
So confused as first timers so any tips or advice would be much appreciated!Oh dear, here we go again.0 -
No don't buy a thing just yet. I speak from experiance, they have specified suppliers and will only pay them direct. You have to go through a set proccess and it will take approx 4-6 weeks once started you need suppoting proof to send to your local authority, who then send you for an assesment, and the assesor makes a reccomendation. He then gets quotes and sends them to the LEA and they say who gets to supply whatever it is you need. you then contact and arrange delivery, but they invoice the LEA direct.
Sorry its a bit long, but so is the proccess!!!
Keep reciepts for all the little things also in the meantime though i.e. paper stationary...etc
Good Luck

Some uni accom require accomodation deposits to be paid within a week. This will be well before the first loan payment so students will need to borrow from their interest free (hopefully) overdraft that comes with the student accounts or from the bank of mum and dad.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hi,
Hope you can help.
I am due to start a PGCE next week, I applied as single parent with 5 kids and have my payment schedule. The thing is I got married last week alhough we can't live together at moment as he lives away from me (he's a student). I have to let tax credit know and they will change my tax credit because of marriage. How will this affect my student finance though? I get special support grant £2835, pla £1470, basic loan £3470 and income assessed loan £1803. He earns £6000-7000 per year and is a student. If his income is assessed will I lose anything?? I know there are allowances for each dependant, could you give me a rough estimate...what evidence of earnings will they want?
Many thanks0 -
I have a question that I need help with. I recieved a student loan in 1990/91 but didn't complete my degree. I didn't start working full time until 2000. In 2004 the SLC contacted me about the arrears and I agreed a repayment plan. I want to return to do a degree but have been refused finance until I pay off the approx £1500 I owe. I'm currently on Incapacity Benefit so this seems unlikely. Is there any way I can solve this? I was told by the college that educational charities might be able to help.0

As recommended by Martin on his Top Student Accounts 2008/9 page, my niece signed up for the Halifax account.
She was told today she had been rejected. She was also told that to find out why she'd have to pay £3. Does this sound correct?Niemand0
