    Adult Dependant's Grant???

Ah! It might be worth looking that up. I found http://www.studentparents.org/student-finance/adult-dependants-grant
    which might help.

  • What or who is ADG?

If you have an adult who is dependent upon you whilst you are studying, you may be able to apply for additional support with an Adult Dependants' Grant. You will be, often, required to provide the financial details for the Adult Dependent. Please be aware there are no set thresholds for eligibility, it will be down to an assessor and the student and dependants individual circumstances and proof they can provide on dependency - e.g: Bank Transfer Receipts or Western Union Slips.

The dependent does not need to live with the student, or in the UK in fact :D

  • Hello

Can you help with pre-1998 student loans?

Erudio are chasing my husband for £8k 'arrears' for loans taken out between 2002 and 2007. I thought it was only pre-1998 non income contingent loans the SLC sold off. When we asked Erudio why these loans are not with the SLC, their answer was something along the line of 'just because'.

    Hello there!

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has completed and authorized the sale of outstanding student loans to Erudio Student Loans. The sale relates to the remaining Mortgage Style loans taken out by students who began courses between 1990 and 1998.

The official line is that Government is committed to maximising the value of any assets to benefit the taxpayer; this asset sale could contribute to a reduction in public sector debt.

This is not the first sale of Student Loans the government has done, and I would not expect it to be the last :D

Hi slcworker my son was born in spain and has a spanish passport but to british parents does he qualify for a student loan if studying in the uk?

I'm not SLCWorker, nor do I work directly for Student Loans Company (SLC), but I can help.

*How many years residency does he have? He may be eligible for a Tuition Fee Loan (EU Loan), be eligible to apply as Home Student (Five Clear, provable residency required) or go through the rigmarole of applying as a child of an EU MW.

If he does not have five years residency, and does not want to settle for just Tuition Fees, don't expect the process to be nice :D

    Good Luck :P

  • Hey I am really hoping you can help as I can envisage 000s being in similar situation. I sent the following question to the the appropiate government department and they sent a pitiful reply back which answered nothing. Here is my question:

    To whom it may concern

I have read this paper with great interest and pleasure. I am currently half way through a masters part-time course.

I do have one question though and I think it will be pertinent to a lot of other prospective PG students. It is a point that does not seem to have been covered in this consultation paper.

Regarding repayment of the PG loan, I understand it will be taken from salary concurrently with UG repayments. However, your paper assumes the post-2012 Plan 2 UG model which is 9% after £21k.

What happens with those repaying UG loan under pre-2012 system, Plan 1, which is 9% after 15k? Will this be aligned to 21k also or will the UG element continue at 15k and the PG at 6k along with this?

I believe this will be a similar scenario for plenty of mature students so clarification on this would be welcomed greatly.

Call the PGL team in Glasgow. There looking forward to your call :D
Thank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!

We have recently registered our income for the year 14/15 to support our son's student loan application. Our income has recently gone down significantly so we have a 'Current Year Assessment' form to complete to estimate our income for the tax year 16/17.

I am aware that we only declare taxable income.

We have some income from savings which is not (yet) in ISAs. From April 16 the first £1000 of savings income is tax free. If our savings income is less than £1000 (each) do we have to declare this on the form? I can find no guidance anywhere on this.

Your savings income is taxible, it is just that you now have an additional £1000 tax free allowance for savings now.
