Hi. I'm going to be changing course come september, redoing 2nd year which I have just completed.

I know I can get the funding to repeat one year, but will I be able to change my application or will I have to start all over again?

    Thanks

You've sent off your application already? If so, go onto your online account and you should be able to change the course. If you can't, then you'll need to call them up to get it changed. Definitely don't apply twice for the one year.

I hope you can help me my daughter will be starting Uni this September and my son will be starting his second year also in September. They have both appllied for student loans/grants but my daughter has been awarded over £1000 more than my son. They should both be entitled to the max as our household income is less than £21000. My son called Student Finance to query this but was told that this was correct as he was assessed on the old system. How can a person in exactly the same circumstances be expected to survive on over £1000 less per year? They both will attend Uni where it would be impossible to commute from home. I really don't understand. Surely this can't be correct? This must be some human rights or equality issue here.

Can easily be right, as it's governed by the regulations laid before parliament in the first academic year of study.

What universities are they attending? Could be a variety of reasons behind it.

Yes I think you will find that Student Finance is correct. As your son started last year, his loans and grants run under a different system to your daughter's, therefore different rules and regulations apply.(as in the case in the hike in tuition fees).

As a guide, compare your son's loan and grant to that of last year's. Its probably roughly the same if your income hasn't altered since then.......and presumeably he managed to survive on his allowances?

I'm sure Taiko will be able to enlighten you further when available to comment.

Happened to my boys too, I have had 2 out of the 3 of them doing overlapping degree courses for the last four years, and they've all had different amounts because of the changes to the system each year.

I've treated it as another of those 'life's not fair, deal with it' moments ...

Hi need some help please on behalf of my son.
First question; My son left Uni at the end of first year due to illness and wasn't registered for the 2nd year, the student loan company are saying he didn't complete the year so are asking for the last semester payment back. We've sent them letters etc. with dates showing he was enrolled on the course right up until the end of the year, in fact he was enrolled on summer 'catch up' sessions! He is getting letters from the SLC and debt repayment company so now we're confused - who do we reply to? Obviously the debt company aren't interested in the why's and wherefore's as they only want the debt they've 'bought' repaid but if the SLC have sold it on, why are they still in touch re this academic year?

After a year out to get himself well he was offered a place on a completely different course in a different university and again problems!
The University is in Wales and my son still lives in England, with us as he is a parent with shared custody of his toddler. Because the child's mother is the 'registered parent' ie she recieves the Child allowance and as she works part time all the relevant tax/child credits etc. My son receives nothing for the child even though the child is with him more days than she is with mother. He doesn't claim for the child on his loan form as the mother says he's not able to or it would affect her entitlement but has to feed, clothe look after the child whilst with him (hence the major reason he's still at home with us).
It seems that because he attends a Welsh university he can't apply for English 'add ons' like Access funds etc. (forgive me, I'm not sure of the proper titles) but because he lives in England he's not entitled to any of the Welsh ones either!

Sorry if it seems to ramble on but I'd just like a little clarification if at all possible.

    Thanks

On the first point, the SLC are going to require written confirmation from the university of his last day of attendance. There will be an overpayment though, and he would need to repay this back.

Rest I can't comment on, as it's outside of my knowledge base.

Hi, wonder if someone can help please? Sorry it's long.
I am no longer a student but SFE wrote to me before Christmas asking me for some financial information from 2010/2011 so they could assess me and check I hadn't received too much grant for this period and that I would have to repay any over payment if I had.
Over the next few weeks I sent them various information they had requested and then received a letter on the 21st of April (dated the 17th of April) indicating that, due to the evidence I had submitted my entitlement had changed. The letter went on to list the grants/loans I was entitled to for the 2010/2011 period, on the list was a £2642 Adult Dependants grant that I had not previously received. The letter went on to say that if a payment was due to me it would be paid. I called SFE to ask if I was due this payment, they said yes I was owed £2642 from 2010/2011 and that it had been paid in to my account on the 19th of April. They had paid it in to my old Santander Account which is closed. I asked them why they did this as I had updated my bank details on their website in January of this year and they told me they paid it in to Santander as this is the account associated with my 2010/2011 application!
I was confused to say the least.
They told me to wait 10 days as it would bounce back, I called Santander and they told me the account is closed and they can't access it and the money should bounce back to SFE, I called SFE every few days but no joy. After a couple more calls to Santander they advised me to ask SFE to put a trace on the money to get it back. We are now in week six and they money is still nowhere to be found. Santander say they can't deal with it as my account is closed and SFE keep telling me 'give it a couple more weeks' every time I call them.
We are struggling financially and I need this money desperately, What more can I do to get this grant payment re-issued? SFE seem to have no information about the progress of this trace and I am beginning to wonder if they are even trying to get it back?

Sorry for the essay, thanks for reading.
