Hi,
My daughter has spent so much time faffing about with the forms and it took a while to get the OH's log in to work ( after phone calls etc, I hate the finance site!!) so it's a couple of days late. Will this make a difference?
Thanks!0 -
Hello,
I'm hoping you can give me some advice with student finance as I am sick to death of them. It's a bit of a long story but I will try to keep it short.
I am a final year law student and at the beginning of the 2011-2012 year I applied for the tuition fee loan, maintenance loan and maintenance grant. Obviously they used my parents income from 2009-2010 to assess me but what had happened was that my mother had lost her job so they had to complete a predicted income form for 2011-2012 so they could update the amount to pay me. That was all okay and I received a revised figure and updated payment in January this year. Because my parents income was predicted at around £21,000 I was eligible for a bursary directly from the uni, which is great.
At the end of the tax year it turned out the income received was actually only about £14,000 (as my father does not work). Now I was already aware that I could not receive any further payments from student finance because I was below the threshold and receive the "maximum". But my uni is quite generous and I am not eligible for another £700 bursary because of the revised household income.
Now the problem I have is that the university is only able to pay me this revised bursary once they have been informed of the updated income from student finance. However, because of this issue with student finance about me being "under the threshold" they are telling me they will not update my household income details on their system, even though they have received all the necessary forms and proof as I am not entitled to any more payments from them. I have explained to them that I am not expecting anything from them, other than for them to just update their details on my parents household income, which I think is a legitimate request. This refusal means I am not going to be able to receive this bursary which I really need! I have asked the uni if they can look at the details directly which they cannot do but I feel it is student finance's bad attitude which is the problem here.
To make matters worse, my university term finishes on the 15th June and if they do not receive the details by then they will not honour the increased bursary.
I have emailed a formal complaint to student finance but they are going to take 15 days to respond, meaning the last day will coincide with the 15th. This has been an ongoing matter since March this year but student finance's unreasonableness is going to lose me £700.
So what can I do? Would I have a case against them if I were to take this matter further?
Thank you for reading and apologies for such a long message0 -

Hello, I have a ongoing problem with SLC. Basically SLC are saying they overpaid my grant in my 3rd year and are asking for £400 back. Can they do this? Is there anyway I can apply against it? And why did they do it through a debt collection company?
Thanks,

Hi Taiko
Just wondering if you could help me please, I have spoken to 2 people at SLC and they both had different answers
I started uni last sept, part of my course was to complete a work placement, i didnt manage to get in done during the term so I have been asked to complete this during the break (finished lessons in may, due back in sept)
Would I be able to submit a claim for childcare grant for my childcare costs from now (never needed childcare before) for the 2011/2012 student finance year or would I have to wait until september for the new financial year of Student finance?
thank you!0 -
Potentially, you can.
Are you a lone parent?0 -
sorry to ask again, but with it being the bank holiday and all I was thinking my previous request for help might have been missed. If anyone can help I'd be very grateful0
