Just wanted to say big Thank you for your recent advice. It gave me (and DD) the confidence to go for it and apply after what initially seemed not very hopeful. We spent a lot on phone calls, did some chasing, gave them what I think was over and above evidence they requested and she has just had an offer of a loan. It certainly pays to try.
Many thanks again. MrsDThoughts to all. Mrs D.

Hi, I wonder if you can help. My daughter is hopefully starting a 6 year course in veterinary science this autumn. She has always wanted to do this and then work in Africa with big cats, and this is still the plan although obviously it's a long way off and anything could happen betwen now and then. Her grandfather has very kindly offered to pay her tuition fees and we're anxious that she does not have large debts for the next 30 years, but if she works in Africa I imagine it unlikely she will earn £21,000 and if she has a career break for children then she may never fully repay the debt. On the other hand , if she ends up a partner in a UK practice then she will end up paying very much more than she borrowed. It's such a lot of money - £54,000 for the tuition fees alone - we don't want to get it wrong but are not sure what to do for the best as it is impossible to predict her future.
Many thanks0 -
I feel a bit daft asking for advice on here! However I've searched 'student loan overpayments' and only got results about what to do if you've carried on paying over and above the full amount, I'm nowhere near there yet!
For tax years 2010-11 and 2011-12 I've earned nowhere near 15K in total, however due to overtime, unsociable hours pay etc. my monthly payslips have sometimes been high enough that I've had a bit of student loan repayment taken.
Is there any way to reclaim these overpayments? I was going to just let it slide but the money would actually come in really handy, its probably less than £150 but every little helps!

If you give the SLC a call, they should be able to assist. May require copies of your P60's for each year though as confirmation.0

Thanks, was slightly hoping there was a way to sort it without calling after spending 20 minutes on hold (twice) last week for something else!
Ah well, shall bite the bullet.0 -

I'm not sure what you're actually asking or why you're worrying about tuition fees if her grandfather is paying.
If she goes to work abroad then the threshold at which she'll make repayments will be different from the £21,000 which applies in the UK.0 -
Hi, I wonder if you could help. I'm sorry if the question was already asked at that thread but I couldn't find anything relevant. I have a problem with tuition fee loan. I'm finishing now the first year of undergraduate study(planned for 3y). I'm 36 years old and was previously at HE in years 1997-2000 (part-time, finished with bachelor title, but because it was part-time, NARIC recognised it as Foundation Degree equivalent). It was done in Europe and was founded from private founds. When I applied for Student Loan last year I was told that I would not get tuition fee loan for the first year but I would get it for the next 2 years. I was given maintanance loan. I was sure that I will get full support for the rest of my study, but now I was offered maintanance loan only. Unfortunately I cant find any relevant regulations which would support their first version and their oryginal answer is lost together with all other data during my hard drive crash
.
I study full time, have a partner and 2 kids, partner's income a.35kpa
I would really appreciate any help.
