Devildog covered antonia's question for me luckily, can't really add any more than that.
Tuk, you'll be reduced support in the first year of the new course. This may mean having to make fee payments yourself, and there would be no entitlement to the maintenance grant.0 -
Sorry to ask this, I did have a quick browse myself but couldn't find information on continuing students.
DS3 is currently Year 2, and will progress to Year 3 in September (exams permitting). This is the first year that he's been our only dependent. Our income for the relevant year was definitely more than £25,000, so am I right in thinking that it's not worth him being income assessed?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Hi - thanks for the info - I understand Further Ed is to be eligible for Student Loans from next year. I have a BA, (had a Grant in the good old days when we funded education sensibly in this country). Now 65 I want to do City & Guilds Image Capture Level III (Photography) I understand this is a 2 year course, several £000s, and other than State Pension have little income. My husband is still working and currently has a good income. Do I have to rely on him funding me or can I borrow in my own right? There may be an option to do the course in one year, in Academic year from Sept 2012 only, at the current rates, but this may be too onerous for me. Any advice would be much appreciated.
AFAIK there have been no proposals to offer loans to FE students so you would have to pay for this yourself.0 -

If you are talking about double £25K then it would probably not be worth doing, however if it is not as much as that(and you can cope with the palava with Student Finance and income assessment) it probably would be worth doing. If your older 2 were at Uni during the same time period as DS 3 £2260 would have been deducted from your total household income to allow for the number of students in the family(so not that much) So if he received a grant/loan previously then there is a good chance he could receive similar this year.0 -

Thanks, I'll have to look at figures. It's not double £25K - oh gosh, I've just checked and it could have been double, it is now IYSWIM. I'll talk to DS3 because I don't think he got much last year, so I doubt if it's worth the HUGE hassle we've always found it!

Hello experts,
I graduated in 2008, with a current debt of £14,000. My girlfriend graduated in 2010, with a current debt of £26,000.
We're both working in Korea, earning the same wage (2,200,000KRW per month, around £14,700 per year).
Last year in Korea, we paid nothing. This year, I have to pay £39/month repayments, while my girlfriend pays £15. She pays less, yet has a larger debt and we're both on the same wage.
Is this because we graduated at different times? I am confused!
Many thanks for your help :-)0 -
I don't think I should reply as I am not an expert!!
HoweverI think you are half way there, as in it will more than likely be due to the year when you started your degrees. Every so often the terms change(when you start repaying/what rate etc)
As tuition fees have kicked in and then got higher the level of income you are allowed to earn before repayments start has also got higher.
Best guess anyway0 -

Thank you, I guess it's the only answer. Still seems a little rubbish that we're on the same wage and I pay more than double despite her debt being higher!0
