    Hi
My daughter has just heard from Student Finance and her Maintenence Loan will be £3575.
This I understand is the 72% of the maximum grant. The remaining 28% is means tested.
Does this mean she will not be receiving any more? Acording to our household income she should be getting a loan.
Please help, I thought I understood all this, but now am a bit confused.

Are you getting the grants and loans confused?

That thought did cross my mind too:)
  • Hi. I was a mature student (32 years old when I started Uni) between 1996 and 2000. I started getting student loan from either1996 or 1997 until I gratuated in 2000. I keep giving them £5 a month as this is the only amount I can afford. but they put £17 interest on my loan ever month and now I owe them lost of money as the £5 dose not even cover the interest, never mind the loan. They also divided my loan between two different compenies!!(although I had my student loan from same people every year),which both keep asking for money. I read in Metro that Student Loan charge axed( Metro Friday 24, 2012). but not sure if it effect me or not. can you advise please. Thank you
  • Hi all

not sure if anybody is able to help but i will keep it brief,

I am in my 3rd year of uni and I have 3 children and live with my partner. for the previous 2 years i have been awarded pla and adg yet this year i have been awarded neither even though my circumstances are exactly the same as the previous 2 years . I have been told that this is because my previous 2 years has not been finalised so they will not assess me for this year. even though I have found letters stipulating that my awards are final. i have been in contact with them since aug 11 trying to sort this out and i could go on forever telling you the things that have happened, but my main questionis......... is what they are doing right, can they not award me pla or adg till 09/10 and 10/11 are finalised. I thought that all awards that were made were provisional in the first instance as this is what has happened for the last 2 years.

i would be grateful for any response or feed back
(hope I have made some sense in what it is I am asking)
    cheers:beer:

They can do this I'm afraid, so I'd suggest speaking with them to find out exactly what documents they require.

    Hi Taiko,

I received my confirmation letter through from SFE last week but it only mentions the amounts I will receive for tuition fee loan and maintenance loan. I'm also eligible for SSG so will they notify me about this separately?
“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”
  • thanks Taiko

I have continually sent all relevant documents such as financial obligation as well as my partners tax returns and each time i get a new request sometimes 3 times for the same thing. the last thing they are asking for is my partners income from april 2011 to sept 2011 as his tax year runs from april 2011 to april 2012 they want the remainder of 2011 academic year. the letter states that if i don not send the relevant document by 27/03/12 then they will assess me on what they hold, I am unable to send this type of documentation in due to the tax year not being up. They have said that they would except a letter from his accountant but he does not have one as he does it himself on line.

I am tempted to let them do this but unsure if it is for the best.

Also recently they finalised my 09/10 SF and said that I owed them 408 as i had been over paid however when i queried their findings and asked for the relevant documentation sent out stating how they had come to this decision i was told that they could not due to the data protection act. Can they do that do i not have any rights to see the information they hold on me to come to that conclusion.

    Thanks for your time

    hey all, quick question

im 23 and in my first year, i heard through friends that i could be eligble to be classed as independent. basically i have documents showing that within the last 5 years i have earnt over the 7.5k limit for two years. there is one year where i almost reached that limit but due to being made redundant i was on jsa for a few months with my partner supporting us. as we are not married im still classed as being supported by my mum! will sfe class me as independent if i can show that i was working the majority of that year although for a part i did claim benefits i lived away from home and my partner supported me

also do they count the 'years' as tax years or actual years
