My application (done online) has been approved but the SLC are awaiting for my signature. They've sent the letter out to my previous address twice now. I had a look at my account online and found a copy of the letter in the correspondence section (pdf/gif files). Do you think it's possible to print this letter and send it to them? or do they need the original letter they post?
Secondly I am going into my final year and only getting 2/3 Maintenance loan of what I got in my previous years... the SLC claim that this is because I will not be at university during the summer once I complete my course.... well who's going to be paying my rent? The amount I'm getting will cover 2/3 of my rent but will leave me with having to spend £1100 out of my own pocket... I have about £400 overdraft available but that still means I will have to hand over £100 of my own money each month to break even... this is not even taking books/food money into account!
Don't see why you can't just print the letter out and sign it, esp. if they can't even get their act together to get it to the right address (assuming you've changed your address details with them).
It's standard practice to get less in your last year for the reasons given to you by the SLC (they got something right:rotfl:).
Do you work part-time at all? I know it's difficult to balance a job in your final year. You can also apply to the Access to Learning Fund at your uni. They may be able to help you.0 -

Thanks for your reply, I do work part time, but this year I only intend to do so until December, really need to knuckle down this year!
Just emailed my uni to see when ALF applications start so its a start. I think I should stand a good chance of getting a fair bit this year.
my main concern is that the student halls I'm living in want £1600 from me in the next couple of weeks (before the student loan payment, which is ridiculous!). I chose to pay in 3 installments when I should have chosen 8 monthly payments. Think I will be nagging them to change my tenency to the 8 payment scheme (which I am not too keen on doing, 3 installments makes budgeting alot easier). Hopefully will work, otherwise I will have to go to my bank and ask for a temporary extension to my overdraft.SLC: £13000+
Quidco: £131.24 (paid) + £0 (validated) = £131.24
Valued Opinions: £75 (paid) + £52.30 (received) + £4.50 (pending) = £131.80
StudentPanel: £250 -
Thanks again SA - I am devoteing this weekend to The Form, so I'll doubtless be back again with more questions soon!Mortgage December 2023: TBC
Credit card debt (extension cost) Dec 2023: £9786
Fashion on the Ration 2024: 0/66 coupons

Hi,
Can anyone point me in the right direction to heplp my son? He is doing a Masters from next month and will, he tells me, not be entitled to another student loan as he will be a post-grad student - so will need a bank loan instead. Any advice for the best graduate loans?Weight loss - here we go again - watch this space!

Hi,
I worked for 10 weeks over the summer (summer placement) however will not be working until next summer. I entered my national insurance number and am worried that the Student Finance loans people will think I am going to be working during the academic year as they will see my earning for the summer. Will my the possible student loan I will recieve be reduced as a result of my summer placement?
Thanks!0 -
Hi, i've just received my first payment from my student loan, however i am wondering if it would be possible to get higher payments for a few months as i have some household bills that need paying and money is running out pretty fast.
Thanks in advance

It doesn't generally matter if you work during the academic year. SLC only need your NI number so they can track you after you've finished your course and you need to start paying them back.0 -

You can only get what you have been awarded and that will only ever be paid out in 3 instalments - one at the beginning of each term. If you need additional financial help, you need to apply to the Access to Learning Fund at your institution.
Contact your student services or check out some of the other forum threads if you need help budgeting.0 -

You can contact your local tax office for a statement of earnings for the last tax year, alternatively, if you get tax credits, you could send your award notice instead. Send it recorded mail etc to be sure.0
