Just after a little bit of help to stop me worrying.
Ive just started a access course and hoping to go to uni next year. Hubby is on a low income (less then £8000) and we receive wftc. Will i be eliglbe for grants for uni or will it have to be all loans.
I thought you could get the fees paid for you, dont know why i thought that, but now im panicking that we cant afford it.0 -

You will probably be eligible for a combination of loans and grants.
As far as fees go, you can get a tuition fee loan so that you don't have to pay them up front. See here for the current info on the funding available. Given your husband's income, you should get the maximum support.0 -
I'm in a situation where I've been financially independant & enstranged from the parents since march 2007, I managed to apply with my friend helping me to lias with my step father to sign the papers etc...thing is he's self employed and the tax returns paper he gave was dated for 2004 to 2005...now the lady who's spoken to me at the SLC told me because i'm not working full time for 3 years i'm not considered independant. Is there anything I can do to get proof? They said I could try getting referances from my tutors and doctors but it might not work for me to get loans as an independant....what are my options left? thanks for the help if anyone is reading this.Impartial view on electrical deals!0

Have you had any support with your estrangement, such as a Connexions worker or social services? If so, they could write a supporting letter to explain that you are estranged from your family and ask that they are not included in any financial assessment.0 -
Hi,
Firstly, thank you very much for giving advice for free regarding students loans. I wouldn't really know where to go otherwise. Basically, my problem is that I have a student loan from when I was doing a BA (I've not earned enough money since then to pay any back) but next year I'm moving to the Netherlands to start another degree there with no intention of coming back to the UK (ever). What will happen to my student loan? How on earth would I be paying it off even when I eventually earn enough money? (I will be going on to do a Phd etc so it won't be until I'm in my 30's that I'll be earning enough to pass the £15k threshold). I'm a bit confused and I would be very grateful if you could let me know what to expect. Thanks again,

Hi,
I am a recent graduate (actually May of this year!) but I have come back to uni to study for another degree (afraid of going back to work I guess!! lol)
I was an "independant student" when I studied last and had LEA funding from Sept 2005 to May 2007 (so only two years)
Anyway, apparently the regulations have changed with regards to another student loan/tuition fee loan which means if you already have a degree you can't get another loan.
So is there anything else I can do?
Thanks

You must inform the SLC of your move. They will require you to indicate any earnings you expect to get, and to inform them when this goes above the threshold.
When you are earning enough, you will be required to set up a direct debit to pay the SLC in sterling, you are responsible for any conversion charges etc.
If you do not inform them, and they find out, they can apply penalties to your account, such as doubling your interest charges.0 -

when i moved out my friend let me crashed over at hers and help with the rent from march till june when i was able to support myself in a new student housing. My ex-boyfriend's mum works for the council and she knew things were sour for years and she said she'll write a referance for me, so did my team leader at work and also my housemate. Is a letter from the council worker legit? xxx
It really depends on your LEA and what they except as evidence. Most of the time it has to be a Counciler or Social Worker that has to write a letter. You can try sending a reference from the council worker but i dont think your LEA will except it. You might have to go non-income assessed.I'm wanting to change what account my loan gets paid into, do I have to give them a set amount of notice (like four weeks before it is due to be paid in) or anything like that?My accommodation costs exceed my loan entitlement. Am I eligible for any extra finance options?Hi,
