Is there any way to conact SFE by any other way than 'phone? I need to contact them so that they can explain to me why I've been randomly assessed and am now £600 short. I am not paying 25p per minute just to talk to someone.

Hey wonder if anyone can help with this, or knows what student finance are playing at....

I was assessed for full grant (which I got) and I only required £1,250ish of the tuition loan because I was only doing Foundation Degree to start with (but I would certainly be eligible for the full 3k). Following exam results I changed course (and campus location) to full BSc Honours degree, so now have to pay the full 3k a year.

I sent the change of circumstances form to student finance, along with a letter from uni stating my new course and fee amount (both of these were on the form I sent to SFE too, but uni said they would put it on headed paper too). SLC eventually replied with a letter saying I'd been reassessed because my situation had changed blah blah blah..........and it had another financial notification with my old course, old campus and old fee amount on it.

Can I email complaints rather than phone? Because I have no phone other than a mobile and can’t afford to pay whatever stupid prices o2 want to charge for a premium rate call to fix SFE’s error, so if they won’t deal with email is there a way to get them to phone me back!? (Bearing in mine they screwed up my original application too and that only got resolved by emailing complaints).

It's just that I don't want uni getting funny with me about owing them 2 grand, because when they notice you owe money they can ban your computer account….which would be as good as kicking me out as I'm doing a computing degree and need to do the practical sessions.

Or can I just explain or email this to the uni and let them sort it out!? It’s their money afterall??…

    sh1305, Zack1, the non-premium number for SFE, as listed at https://www.saynoto0870.com is 0141 243 3600. ;)

I believe that one doesn't work now? Because so many people were using it and it's only intended for overseas students. Will try it though.

What makes you say you thought it didn't work any more? It works fine now.

I don't know whether it is provided by SFE for calls from overseas, but the way I found it for SAYNOTO0870.COM was by dialling through loads of SLC numbers.

Can you go and see your student support team? I let students use our phone to ring SFE and will help them with the phone call too - tell them what to say/speak to SFE for them.

Has your university done an official transfer notice? You will not be reassessed until this has been done.

I think they have, it's a letter on headed paper that I had to go and get after I registered saying my new course is BSc Hons, my fees are £3,225 and I graduate in 2012 etc and they said to send it to SLC with change of circumstances requesting the maximum loan available, but SLC didn't even send that back to me

Thanks, I'll ask them during the week then - and try and get it put on my record that I've asked, because if SFE mess about I don't want uni banning my computer account or anything like that!

my daughter is 18 but on a low income, my live in partner is on £28k per year, but... only agrees to paying his half of the house costs... and no more, he says he doesnt see why he should divulge his income to them as its nothing to do with them.....

    any ideas?

    loops

My idea would be to get rid of such an unsupportive partner!

Why should the state support you further when you live with a partner on a decent wage and have no dependents? Does he not aggree with you going to uni? Does he not realise you'll earn more, and be more able to support you as a couple, once you have been? Personally I'd tell him to sort his attitude out or I'd kick him out.

Edit: This post isn't a go at you. I'm just annoyed on your behalf (and shocked) that your partner is being so unsupportive.

It's an SFE standard form that the uni complete and send off themselves - they shouldn't give it to you.

Oh I guess not then - the person I saw wasn't a finance person he was from my department so didn't seem 100% sure what he was doing but I got sent to that office so he asked what I'd been told on the phone and just did a letter and said that should be fine. So if I go to Student Services instead they should do that form for me? Would that fix the issue with SFE only thinking they are paying out £1,200ish rather than 3k? Or would I have to re-request that after?
