Got a letter from them today. Seems payments will cease, but they have no time to find out who owes what until April. Awh well!0

SLC will not know what people have paid till about June or July after the end of the tax year.
If they have your previous tax year's repayments then all you need is to send copies of this years payslips so they can work out the refund to you.0 -
hi i was at uni from 1999-2003 and had to take a student 'loan' to survive (missed the grant system by 1 year)
i have been earning over the yearly cut off for a little bit now and no money has come out (that i'm aware of) i thought this would be an automatic thing
is the repayment system automatic?
what would happen if i just didn't ever pay anything?0 -

Repayments should have started the April after you graduated if you were over the £1250 (gross) per month threshold.
If you are concerned about starting repayments contact SLC as the systems at HMRC may not have matched up correctly.
If you do not pay anything interest will be continued to be added to your account. If you changed job when you get your P45 or complete a P46 it should be marked that you are due to pay student loans.0 -
Hi i really need some help with my loan. I originally sent in all the paper work for my loan in february 2009 as i started a BA Hons in fashion this September 2009. I am a young mum and therefore applied for the normal loans as well as the childcare loan which i was told i could get. I know that there is problems with the student loans company. However i have STILL not had any confirmation to say that i'm actually getting a loan, and the university are getting worried as they have had no contact from the loans company to say i'm going to be getting one. My childminder is saying that she is going to have to drop my daughters childcare if she is not given any money as i now owe her two months worth.
I have been on the phone to the student loans company everyday for the last three months trying to sort this out buit everytime i get through to an advisor they keep telling me that i need to talk to a 'different department' i have constantly asked them to give me a direct number for the department as they can never seem to get through but am always refused. If i dont get my loan soon and the childminder refuses to look after my little one i will be forced to drop out of university. Please can you help me as this is getting way out of had and is extremely stressful.

You need to go and see your student services/student union/advice centre as they can- give you a short-term loan to cover living and childcare costs
- help you work out what's going on with SFE & your application
- battle with SFE on your behalf

I've noticed that the SF website no longer says "Some online services are unavailable" and the correspondence tab is available again (albeit not up to date) - perhaps the end is in sight for this whole debacle?

Hi
Can anyone advise me please. My son is doing a 4 year sandwich course and this year is his year out working. He earns about £15000 this year and pays a small amount of fees to the university, should we still apply for student finance. We are a low income family so he normally gets full loan plus maintenance grant.0 -
hi guys.
I have been doing a HND BUSINESS curse which lasts for 2 years but have had to resit some modules each year, which means I am on my 4th year, I have just been notified that I will not receieve help with my tuition fees (90 off pound) or receive a maintanance grant (biggets problem), unless I can show extenuating circumstances why I led to a repeat study, now my parents have just been divorced and it has affected my studies. Will this suffice to get a maintanace grant? Or will going to a doctor applying for a stress note about my studies work? (Not a fan of this as I feel it is wasting doctors time)
The main reason I have got myself in a pickle is I thought as I was definitely going to do my 3rd year degree, I thought I could get finance up to 4 years, but this isnt the case as I am just doing a HND course first of all which is just 2 years
Simple I know but it was the mistake I made.

Yes you can. He will not get full support though. He will for tuition, just not for maintenance.0
