I received a letter this morning from Student Finance, saying "We sent you a declaration form on 15/6 but you haven't signed it, here's another one for you to sign, otherwise you won't get your loan". The declaration I received first of all wasn't means tested, so I sent in information a couple of weeks ago to be means tested, but I'm assuming they haven't taken this new info into account - there was no revised information about the amount I will receive. Should I just wait for them to send me details of the revised amount, or should I phone them? My mum reckons I should just sign and send the declaration form that I have now, but I reckon that would say "Yes, I want the non-means tested amount" which I DO NOT! (There is a SUBSTANTIAL difference in the amount I would receive!) Plus I'm under the impression that I won't be able to receive my Erasmus grant in my third year if my loan isn't means tested...?
You must sign & return the declaration to receive any money at all. This does not mean that you are agreeing that you will only receive this amount, you can sort the rest out later.
There are significant delays in income assessments at the moment so students are only receiving notification of the non-income assessments which are much lower. As long as your parents have provided the proof required, your financial assessment will be completed in due course.0 -

Everyone seems to be having a different experience with this. I'm a continuing student and applied 25/02 and got my approval letter 30/04. Yet last year I applied 12/03 (as a new student) and didn't get my approval letter until 04/08.0 -

They do it all the time, to a lot of people. They have insufficient training.0 -
Hi
I've applied for my first student loan through SAAS (student awards agency scotland) and have received the award letter and all seems well.
I'm not sure when and how this gets paid? I filled out my bank details but is it a lump sum or monthly?
Can you choose? Also, My course starts September 7th so will I have a payment by then?
Most likely. You should have a letter with the exact dates of each installment though? My term starts on the 14th, my first payment is scheduled for the 13th. The installments are now monthly with SAAS and student loans. The first installment will be a double one though to cover the extra expenses at the start of a term (club memberships, books etc).0
