  • Sounds like they haven't got the sponsor information yet. Have yourparents/partner sent off their income details? There is currently a backlog in the scanning department so even if they have sent their details in, this may not have been added to your account yet. The email you received is sent out automatically if the info hasn't been added by a specific date.

My partner has submitted details online the same day, I know because I sat there while he did it. They did not ask for any supporting information, they didn't even ask for his income details only that he confirmed that he was the partner supporting me for 2009/2010?I shall double check his email and make sure they haven't asked for anything.

Martine, same problem here. SLC suck. I submitted supporting documents by post even before they asked and guess what they claim not to have received this and guess what they now require exactly the things i sent in the first place!

I have resent today but the difference is it is recorded delivery and needs to be signed for and they cannot lie about not getting it this time round. I would advise everytone to send documents using this method and never send original of things you would be gutted to never get back because these buffons will lose them - I asked on the phone when I spoke to their helpline staff and photocopies are fine.

I got the same email in April and was in the same situation as you. I sent a secure message via my account to the SLC to ask what it was they wanted. I got an email back saying that as far as they were aware they did not require any more information but I should call my LEA to check with them. This I did and was told that the email was sent in error and that they had all the information they required. I got my assessment paperwork a few days later.

Sending a secure message sounds a good idea.

Bless I can't honestly imagine how busy they all are, it most be horrendous to know at this time of year when you want a summer hol it's your busiest time at work! I imagine more people are applying this year because they haven't been able to find employment too.

Yeah, I can't work because we can't get in to assess people.

I would check with the repayments team. How much does your husband earn? If it's under £15k he won't be making any repayments, and if the repayments are less than £1 per month, they won't take anything either.

If they demand 3 months backpay, I'd certainly be arguing the toss and refusing to repay!

He earns £30k so he should definitely be repaying.
  • Can anyone help/advise?
My partner recently requested that the SLC send her a copy of her statement in order to determinehow much she still owed.
Upon opening the letter we were somewhat shocked to discover that the amount which the SLC claimed she had paid off was significantly less than the amount we know she ahs paid through deductions from her salary. By way of an example for tax year 2008-2009 the statement stated £2600 paid off when she repays £300 per month which would have totalled £3600 to begin with and has also had to pay over £700 off upon receipt of binuses. I am concerned as this is not the first instance i have heard of in this regard. A colleague of mine recently cleared his student loan in one lump sum only for deductions to continue to be made from his salary.

Student Finance England do not accept photocopies of documents - you must send in original documents.

Remember: most people send documents and get them back no problem.

There's information about repayments available at this website (hope the link works!) including contact details. he definitely needs to speak to them.
