No, I didn't think they would reduce the interest.
Parents have offered to lend the rest, but we are all worried whether of not the loan will be approved once the balance is paid off.
Guy at SLC says that once the balance shows as zero the new loan will be approved. Can you give me any assurances about that?
He has already completed degree and had loans for either 2 or 3 of those years.
Thanks for any advice.0 -
There's no reason (from the info you've provided) why he wouldn't get the funding through as soon as the balance had been paid.
Previous undergraduate degrees are ignored for funding purposes for PGCE years.0 -
Hi,
I am a Eu-student and will be commencing a university course in Scotland this year and am currently working out the financial details.
What I was wondering is whether I am entitled to a Student loan as a Eu-Student living with my granddad in Scotland , my father is Scottish but lives in Holland at the moment.
Reading everything about eligibility on the SAAS site I came to the disappointing conclusion that it is not possible to receive anything but tuition fees for someone who has not actually lived/been living in Scotland for three years.
Have I missed anything?
Thanks

:DHello people im new here.
Sorry if this has already been mentioned but there are so many pages in this thread.
I left my uni course early (feb) due to some personal circumstance. Once everyone was updated I recieved a letter saying they had made an over payment to my account and need to make an immediate payment back. Whilst I do realise they would have made some overpayment to me the amount they quoted was incredibly high and I cannot see were the figure came from. I have tried to speak to someone about it and just got the answer of 'it just is' so no real help. I want to dispute this but dont know how to go about it or what to say.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance0 -
Hey, i have alot of Knowledge of how the student loans procedure works. If anyone needs any help, i can advise as much general info.
Obviously i cant divulge into specifics due to Data Protection and the fact that i'd get fired, but anything i can help with, just let me know.
Hi I have just received my letter from student finance and they have reduced my grant and loan by around £2000. When I telephoned they said that this was because I was in my final year and they do not fund you through the summer. I understand this but when I have checked with other students their loans have not been reduced????? I just want to know if it 'does reduce' and if I should persue a better explantion.0 -
Hi RUDDY, yeah your final year loan does get reduced (or it did in my day, 2006, anyway) All my friends with loans had them reduced too. If you do find you get into hardship though, you will have a good chance of getting an access to learning fund (non-repayable) grant from your uni, as you are in your final year.0

Hi all I am looking to become a very mature student and apply for uni 2010, the problem I have is: having 4 dependents and a partner who works, I can only get a small means tested bursary and no childcare help. I have been advised to get a student loan, but I am worried about doing this as dec 2007 I filled for BR after a messy divorce, I was discharged after only 6months and have been discharged a year now. will this affect my chances of getting a student loan.
thanks:j0 -

Hi people,
i have just had my loan stuff back. Its saying that i am only entitled to a tuition fee loan, and a maintenance loan.
Its hte maintenance loan that worries me.
It is only £3600. Pretty much all my friends that are in uni already are receiving grants of £300-900 a term on top of their loan as a grant.
In the box for this i have £0. (income assessed)
My dad has jus been made redundant a few months ago, and my mum works a pretty average job with an OK wage, but i was sure i would have had some sort of grant as well.
Theres no way i can live off £3600 for a year. My rent is going to be pretty much that.
Is there a way to apply for a living/maintenance grant seperately, as i could really do with it?
Thanks in advance0 -

To get a grant or extra loan your parents must be earning less than £60k.
If its changed because of your dad being made redundant you can fill in a Change of Circumstances form.0
