Hi All,
I am new to this forum but just wondered if someone might be able to offer me advice from previous knowledge or experience!
I am starting uni full time in September and although yes it was a last minute decision it is something that has been in the pipeline for over 10 years.
I have put all my student loan/ grant application in back in June and just wondered how long before I hear anything from them, I have sent all the supporting documents by recorded post and although these are tracked as being recieved this doesn't show on my Student finance online account.
What happens if I don't recieve anything in the next couple of weeks and how will I pay my tuition fees??? I haven't even recieved an acknowledgement of any kind from the slc
Many thanks all

Don't worry about tution fees as these do not need to be paid straight away. Worry about paying bills.
But you should get information in next few weeks... hopefully.0 -

Pretty much all of the funding available is income-assessed based on your household income.
However, if you only receive child benefit & only a little or no CTC due to your income, your son might get more income if you stop those claims and he claims housing benefit/LHA instead to cover his rent.
This is assuming that he is under 19 and doing a standard ND course.0 -

Hi OH had to pay a £500 deposit when he signed up for his course
As the tuition fees are paid direct by SF to the institution how do we get the £500 back ?
As we will have over paid in effect
Any ideas as to whats normal in that situation thank you"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."
All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.0 -

This might be a stupid question but I have such brain fog today...
I've been talking to the my local ME group, who have suggested working part time rather then full, and made some very valid points about this being the best option. They also said that if I studied part time due to disability, I would still recieve full time funding.
I can't live on part time funding, because I live on my own, so I'm very interested in this. Has anyone got any information? The uni involved have said that they aren't sure how I'd apply for it, but it 'sounds about right', and to email her tomorrow and she'll swap me on to part time. They won't accept me onto full time but let me study part time, though, because she said that that isn't allowed, as its taking someone elses space, which makes sense.
Please help?Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:0 -

I think it depends on the intensity of the course - how many hours you are studying and how long it'll take you to finish the degree. However as a part time student you will be also entitled to some income based benefits.
For more information see HERE and HERE
It may also be worth you contacting your LEA to see what they can advise. It's important to contact the SLC as soon as you can as you don't want to have them chasing you for money later down the line.

Can anyone help, please?
I have 2 kids both at uni but they have been notified different maintenance loan/grant amounts based on our income for the coming academic year. Both are living away from home and are non-London based. My son will be starting his 2nd year in September and has been given a loan of £3586 and a grant of £1159. My daughter starts her 1st year in September and has been given a loan of £4502 and a grant of £896. Do you know why this would be, please? We could only think it could be that my son is a year ahead and maybe the calculations used are different or that it is because he started studying in 2008 and gets his loan via the local authority as opposed to Student Finance England.
Also, according to my online SFE account, our original P60s were returned to us on 5th August but we haven't received them yet. Should I be worried or does it take a while to physically send them out?
Any advice would be much appreciated. I did try phoning SFE but it was a disaster as the lady I spoke to seemed confused herself!0
