Totally off topic, but actually came back on to ask you doggy people if you had any advice for poor Dunc.
He has an awful sensitive tum, hes been to the vet a few times for injections to stop him being sick, hes not being sick at the moment but has a terrible dose of the trots.
I starved him from yesterday and just gave him a tiny tea of plain rice and a little bit of meat, and am planning on giving him another little meal later.
Anyone of you doggy people have any suggestions??
(sort of on topic its about food!)0 -

we had same prob with our pup when she was only a few months old and vet attcaked her with about three rounds of anti biotics, think they made her worse.
the starving is good, must be 24hrs at a time. then feed him one small meal of rice and prb a bit of dog chicken. and give that a few hours and then another small meal. maybe two to start with then three then two bigger ones. then half and half with his own food.
we took about two weeks to get our girlie right by doing this.
also you could try (and this is very hit and miss because its dairy) is real yogurt with the bacteria in it as this helps him build the good bacteria back up (this comes out with the runs) but being dairy may make him worse or not help so try a little and see.
what is his normal food?If you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:0 -
Thanks Alf, Dunc used to be on the dried pedigree complete puppy food with a bit of gravy, then we moved him up to the junior and then the senior. Everytime you changed his food it would make him ill.
In the end He just didn't seem to like it that much so we started mixing it with a bit of canned dog meat. Which he liked much better.
The sickness comes and goes, but gets bad enough that he damages his insides and ends up being sick with blood in it (SORRY EVERYONE ELSE).
Thats when we have to go to the vets for the anti sickness jab and you're spot on, they give us antibiotics, and also stuff thats a bit like pepto bismol, its an alkaline that lines his tum and should relieve the irritation.
Hes not puking at the mo, just got a runny bum.
Anyway, back to your original question.
Now he eats, for breakfast, half a can of dog meat with a weetabix. For tea, half a can of dog meat with either rice or pasta.
I like the idea of trying the yoghurt, if its an irritation in his gut then the bacteria may well help!
Thanks Alf0 -
No probs! the problem with the anti biotics is the kill ALL bacteria. especially the good stuff which may be why the poor guy has not got his system back under control.
I dont see anything off in what you are feeding him especially if he is fussy and eats it. we feed weetabix too
before having to go to the vet try yogurt first off. change from the canned food to chicken and rice (canned is quite rich) and see if that settles him down
perhaps an echinacea suppliament if you can get him to eat it. boosts the immune system! great for people and horses so think it should work just as well for your chapIf you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:0 -
I just asked him if he fancied the echinacea, he gave me a dirty look!!!
Well better take him for a little walk, which won't please him, fingers crossed he won't have an accident, he dosent like pooing outside the garden, but occaisionally he just can't help it. Its just very hard trying to pick up watery dump with a piece of kitchen roll and a nappy sack......
On that note I'll go.........
My apologies to everyone, (I know you all like poo talk secretly!)0 -
One word. NICE
this is why ours sleep outside in their lovely kennel and runIf you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:0 -
