Some months ago (I think) Lidl were offering a 160 bags for the price of 80 at £1.57, and as I'd heard about the prices going up I bought about four packs. Just went in there last week and they have the same offer back on again. I now have enough tea-bags to last me for about a year, so if unemployment happens at least I can afford a few cuppas a day0 -
twinings 100's at iceland only 75p0

The Pound shop and 99p stores do 100 PG Tips bags or Tetley for well, a pound.
1p for the tea plus a bit for milk - I really am not worried about re - using T bags!!
Tried Lidls tea which was disgusting and I wouldn't go anywhere near the value ranges.
If you like Tea like me, it has to be a decent cuppa.
Supermarkets own brands are fine though. And yes Asda were doing 80s Yorkshire Tea for a £1 and Iceland were doing 80 Twinings for a quid - these are the best tea brands really!!

Sainsbury's Basics Tea Bags, 26p for 60bags!!! :T
Might actually have to use 2 in the teapot instead of one but this still works out cheaper than Sainsbury's Red Label
And they're fair trade0 -
Katie ours charges 28p for 80??? I reuse mine and they still taste perfectly fine. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

My Husband is a tea addict so when I tried Sainsbury's basic bags 80 x 28p I was expecting him to comment, so I transferred them from the box into the Tea Caddy and waited, and waited and waited and NO COMMENT.
Result we are saving punds and he still isn't aware. :jWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

Like I said earlier, I've never used loose tea (my nan used to make a fine cup with it, though) and wondred if it competes on price with the Sainsbugs Basics tea bags at 0.35p per bag. TIA!
It depends on how strong you like your tea! I like mine relatively weak, and find there's too much tea in a bag for me so it's a waste. I have a smallish pot with a tea strainer thingy in it. I use slightly more than a level teaspoon, fill the pot with water, stir it, pour out a mug then top the pot up and stir again, then take the strainer out. I get two mugs of tea for one teaspoon of tea. I drink tea all day long and one box lasts ages.
Works out much less than basics teabags at .35p a time! And that's using PG Tips loose tea!0 -
Supply problems, what a joke.
There was apparently a shortage of sugar cane in Jamaica in the past. British companies panicked and hiked the price up. The shortage turned out to be a farce. Yet whilst supply was great. The price didn't go back down.
This has happened and is happening at our local chinese takeaways, with rice too. They are charging 30p more for rice dishes.
Its all an excuse to hike prices
I'd go for Yorkshire tea all the way. :-)Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -
No one else drink decaf tea???
Thanks for all the comments everyone, will definitely try Sainsbugs Basics :T
My problem is that I have to have my tea very strong, so I am usually quite fussy. Willing to try anything though! :beer:0 -
Hang on, do the Sainsburys basics really taste okay? I'm currently down to the Red Label but wondered if it might be worth dropping another level. As someone mentioned, it is only 28p...
