If this is a money-saving site, why are people talking about tea bags? Bags cost several times more than loose tea, tea tastes better from a pot, and disposing f the used tea is easier (it's not true that tealeaves block sinks).

teabags and leaves should all go in compost bin not down the drain. as for loose tea we dont have it as its too expensive.

Aldi red label is a very nice tea. Tastes similar to PG.

Sainsbury's basics tea is 28p for 80 bags. Fairtrade and tastes pretty good (much better than the Tesco equivalent).

I'm sure they must make a loss on it and only have the price set to match Tescos, so it's a real bargain.

Tried buying these for both work and home. At both places I got the thumbs down!!

Surely it's not just about how much we pay, but about where our money goes? Through the Fairtrade system, you not only get a top quality tea, but you are ensured that the process in which it is made is sustainable, environmentally considerate, pays a fair wage to the producer, pays a little towards improving the local area in which the tea is produced and sends a significant message to governments that there has to be a better way to do business. Just a thought. Wales is a Fair Trade country. London is a Fair Trade Capital City. Visit: Fairtradewales.com or fairtrade.org.uk for more info. :) The Co-op's own brand tea is 100% fair trade, as is Sainsbury's. Also check out oxfam for tea direct and traidcraft........ If we had thought more about where our money was going, perhaps we would not have lost our way .....:( As consumers, WE HAVE THE POWER!
  • Yorkshire Tea....All the Way!!

If you read the box it does state that 1 tea bag makes 2 cups... therefore you are making a saving (50%) straightaway.

We also use loose tea (yorkshire or twinnings), we brought a teapot from withards of chelsea with a built in strainer, so no messing about with tea leaves in the bottom of the cup / mug.

When we make tea for others they always say... what a lovely cuppa!!

Iceland have Yorkshire Teabags at £2 for 160 (thats an 80 box with 80 free) at the moment. Didn't see any of the hard water ones in there though.

I nearly always stretch a bag to two cups, irrespective of what brand it is. Sometimes even make two bags stretch to five cups... Mrs G has never noticed or complained and I'm not enough of a connoisseur to care how it comes. Guests generally get a fresh one though.

I will ask Mrs G to try Sainsbury's basics next time, although she normally stocks up with whatever is on special offer.

Usually buy whatever silly size bag is on offer at makro - premium brands at catering size value :)

Although to be fair i buy for the office..

I would think the water has just as much impact on the flavour as anything else (seriously hard water where i live)..

Have to agree with alleycat. I buy the catering size bag of Tetley when they are on offer. Last time I bought 1100 bags with 40% extra free - so 1540 in the bag for £11.99, such a good offer I bought two bags (This was from Netto)

With the amount of tea me and the girlfriend drink, we finally just opened the 2nd bag about 3 months after the first!

"I would think the water has just as much impact on the flavour as anything else "

I can vouch for that. When we moved house to a different part of the country it seriously disrupted our tea-drinking.

We had been Tetley drinkers, everytime we had a cuppa for about 2 weeks after we moved we would both say "what is the matter with this tea?" it just didn't taste right. We shuffled thru 3 or 4 brands to find one that suited our taste with the new water (PG Tips now I'm afraid)
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)
