01:22 24Jul09 Gbp/Usd looks positive ahead of UK Q2 GDP
00:21 GMT - [GBP/USD] was fairly quiet during the Asian session yest opening at
1.6460 before dipping to the day's low of 1.6435 in the first hour of
trade. The pair then gradually recovered to reach an initial intraday high
of 1.6540 after the release of better than f/c UK June retail sales which
came in at 1.2% m/m vs f/c of 0.5%. Also giving a slight prop to the pair
was the BOE voting not to expand the MPC's Gbp125 bln asset purchase plan
at this time. Also, BBA reported mortgage activity improved in June with a
pick-up in mortgage approvals & an increase in June net mortgage lending
to an increase of Gbp2.6 bln from a gain of Gbp2.4 bln prev. The pair rose
to an o/n high of 1.6587 before slipping back to open this mrng at 1.6500
ahead of the UK Q2 GDP which is expected to improve m/m but worsen y/y.
Buying orders at 1.6455 by a French name will provide support & selling
orders at 1.6570 by a US Prime will dictate the range ahead of the data. Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk

09:30 24Jul09 INSTANT VIEW 1-UK GDP shrinks much more than expected in Q2
LONDON, July 24 - Britain's economy shrank more
than twice as fast as expected in the second quarter to register
its biggest annual decline since comparable records began,
official data showed on Friday.
The figures are likely to quash hopes of a speedy recovery
and boost expectations that the Bank of England may add more
stimulus to the economy which has now shrunk by 5.7 percent
since the first quarter of last year. Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk

Hi all,
I know I can't get a definitive answer but is the pound likely to grow stronger or weaker against the dollar? I live abroad but bring dollars back once or twice a year. Last time I got $1.47 - 1 pound and changed $3000. This time I'll be bringing back $4-5000 and could either change to pounds or put into a dollar account with a British bank. Any advice on whether to hold or change?
Thanks.0
