I saw the rate at 1.6538 and thought wowee! Then I saw the figures earlier in the day... oh well... i'm sure we'll fly again now I'm back!0 -

Cable has rallied by over a quarter-cent to a high of 1.6559 as the risk-sensitive pound benefits from May"s unexpected 1.8% rise in US durable goods orders. A 0.6% fall was forecast. Dow futures are currently up 83 points. The Dow closed down 0.19% at 8,322 yesterday.
1.6605 was the 13-day peak scaled during the European morning, on the back of Middle Eastern buying of GBP (<TGM2339>). 1.6508 was the pullback low from 1.6605. Sterling plumbed a five-day low of 1.6209 during the European morning yesterday. 1.6271 was yesterday"s pre-London fix (4pm BST) low.
