09:03 24Jun09 GBP/USD: Friday"s High Tested on ME Buying, Stops Above 1.6570
[08:03 GBP/USD: Friday"s High Tested on ME Buying, Stops Above 1.6570] London, June 24.
Cable has revisited last Friday"s peak of 1.6562 (scaled after Moody"s warned that California"s credit rating could be slashed to junk status if the state fails to approve a budget) on the back of GBP demand from a couple of Middle Eastern names. A French bank is reportedly working one of the buy orders. 1.6450 was today"s early Europe low.
Buy stops reportedly reside above 1.6570, with offers then tipped at 1.6600 (June 12 top). Above-figure resistance levels include 1.6622 (June 11 high) and 1.6666 (June 3, eight-month peak).
June"s CBI retail sales balance will be disclosed at 10:00GMT. It is forecast at minus 17, unchanged from May. BoE Governor Mervyn King, Deputy Governor Charles Bean and fellow MPC members Paul Fisher, Kate Barker and Andrew Sentance are due to address the UK TSC from 13:30GMT (<TGM42331>). Today"s key event risk is the 18:15GMT FOMC statement. Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk
