  • OK, have just read thro' the posts a bit more and am now thinking that it may be worthwhile getting one of those FairFX cards for the remaining amount, so i have 2 options available at all times.

The thing you have to remember about those cards is that, I believe, they charge you for each withdrawal. If you're on a bike I'm sure carrying large sums wouldn't be a good idea.

  • 09:29 23Jun09 GBP/USD: Weighed Down by BoE Dale Comment on GBP Exchange Rate

[08:28 GBP/USD: Weighed Down by BoE Dale Comment on FX Rate] London, June 23.

The pound has been negatively impacted by BoE Chief Economist Spencer Dale"s Reuters-reported comment that "buying gilts from foreign investors can have beneficial impact through weaker FX rate", with cable tripping more sell stops en route to a fresh five-day low of 1.6220. Dale also says that it is still too soon to judge the effectiveness of the BoE"s QE Asset Purchase Programme, but that early signs are positive. The BoE upped the cumulative size of its APP to GBP 125bn on May 7 (the GBP 125bn is due to be spent by the end of next month).

GBP/USD buy interest is tipped ahead of 1.6200, with further sell stops touted below the figure. 1.6187 was last Thursday"s low (June 18). Sterling"s recovery rally from 1.6247 (today"s early Europe low) topped out just shy of flagged offers at 1.6330. Today"s Asian session range was 1.6266-1.6350.

BBA May mortgage approvals will be disclosed imminently. A rise to 29.5k, from 27.7k in April, is forecast. The UK DMO is auctioning a GBP 4.0bn 2022 4.0% gilt this morning, with the result due shortly after 09:30GMT.
