1.63926, the announcement on UK house prices rising 2.6% in May according to the Halifax.

Heres hoping this has a positive impact on the currency price.

  • 10:14 04Jun09 GBP/USD: Talk of Supra-National Entity Supply Above 1.6400

[09:13 GBP/USD: Talk of Supra-National Entity Supply Above 1.6400] London, June
    4.
Touted supra-national supply above 1.6400 is helping to keep a lid on cable as it consolidates gains fuelled by May"s forecast-busting Halifax UK house price data. UK house prices rose by 2.6% last month, compared to forecast fall of 1.0%, according to the Halifax. 1.6212 was today"s early Europe low.

The Times reports that shares in Heritage Oil surged 10% yesterday before trading in the oil explorer was suspended when the UK-based company revealed that it was in takeover talks. The article said "market sources" tipped Gulf investor IPIC and French oil company Perenco as possible interested parties. Some of the pound"s strength on Monday (when cable leapt from 1.6185 to a high of 1.6497 in the space of 12 hours) was attributed to GBP buying re: a pipeline M&A deal.

Today"s key UK event risk is the 11:00GMT BoE MPC monetary policy announcement.
