  • Rate dropped again today... Looks to be heading to the 1.55's
  •
Having had a couple of months off from watching the exchange rate, we've now booked another trip (for next summer) so I'm back watching the roller coaster that is the USD exchange rate again! :D
Where you off to this time?

Managed to book some 'free' BA flights in & out of Newark using Airmiles. We wanted to use them before the Airmiles scheme changes and they start charging the taxes, so I just rang them and said we were looking for 3 flights to anywhere in the USA, for any 2 weeks between the end of term and GCSE results day next summer. They checked every combination of airports and dates and this was the only available option, so that's where we're going!:D
We've also booked a car for 11 days - we're thinking 3 days in NYC, as we've never been before, then we'll take off somewhere (yet to be decided).

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

    2025 target = £1200, YTD £9190

You're lucky, Jackie. I priced BA Airmiles flights to Tampa, but the flipping tax for 2 was £980!

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)

Never been to NYC before? Wow... That's number the first place us Brits go to!
I love it there. 3 days isn't long though. I know hotels are expensive but I would try 4 or 5 days. I walked 10+ miles a day there. Just so much to see.... Get the NY city pass too. Kind of makes you go to all the touristy places to get your money's worth... but very enjoyable!

I did NY / Boston / Montreal / Toronto / Niagara / NY on one trip.
Niagara to NY is a fair hike. About 450 miles. But an easy 8 hour drive. Boston was a cool place. Montreal, in November when I went, was depressing! Toronto was great too.

Sorry, not BA miles, Airmiles (www.airmiles.co.uk) - all taxes included!:D
But yes, I think we were very lucky, I've heard it's almost impossible to get flights during school hols so very surprised.

I'm sure it's amazing, but we're just not really into cities... 3 days will be plenty, by then I'll be desperate to get away :D

Not sure whether we'll head north, south, east or west..... but we've got a while to decide..... lots of reseach needed :)

How is Chloe doing? I bet she's growing quickly, is she (are you) sleeping well?

  • Maybe you will get lucky with another usa debt crisis and this time their exchange rate goes down and gives us 2 to a pound like the good old days :D

Certainly doesnt seem so today but always tends to go in cycles

The rate now is just about holding that magic number I mentioned above.
Needs to hold on tight here or 1.54 is next I reckon

Research is part of the fun! There's always Cape Cod.

$ been doing some funny things today. From $1.575, to 1.559, to 1.568 and now back to 1.557.... and dropping :(
