I think you'll find most of the regular posters are posting the inter-bank rate (currently 1.64890) not the tourist exchange rate.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Tourist will vary by who you go to, the rate here is basically the bulk rate for millions or more which is a more solid thing to quote

i understand that i work in a exchange bureau so know the rates , i just think its pointless posting the higher rates as nobody on here can get them and newbies will get confused
the amount of people who i see on a daily basis saying the rate is higher in the paper then when i tell them its the bankrate they think i am ripping them off0 -
Unless they can get better elsewhere then its tough luck, they are not a bank or changing millions so they get the crap rate
I think stuff like credit card purchases would be done via a bank rate. Really depends who you go with. I used to get the bank rate on USA shares but they changed it so the flat fee is lower and the rate is now crap0 -

What rate do you think should be posted then?
Different bureau de change rates vary so much that it would be impossible to post every rate available to holiday makers wanting to change their £ (although Martin has set up an excellent tool that does this - here http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/ ), but that is not what this thread is about.
And you can get these rates, or very close them, if you pay for your purchases in the USA with the right credit card.
To be honest, if 'newbies' take a bit of time to read the thread they should understand what is being posted. This thread has been running for years.
You are entitled to your opinion, if you think it's pointless don't bother reading or contributing.the amount of people who i see on a daily basis saying the rate is higher in the paper then when i tell them its the bankrate they think i am ripping them off
Lots of people don't understand lots of things on the first occasion they have to do/use something - but they should only need it explained properly to them once and then they should know for the next time!2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07
