Very big outperformance recently. Im told its linked to UK inflation figures and the belief of the big money players that Britain will have to raise interest rates sooner where as America is relatively flat

Suits me, heading off to the US next week I just hope it holds/keeps going for the next three weeks or so...... I'm slightly nervous the pound'll tank again as seemed to happen last month when they announce on Friday that the rates are not going up for another month.
  • I'mm off to the States in 10 weeks- any thoughts on whether the trend is further upward or should I get some now?

    Checked BBC at 11.15am $1.59490

I am off to the states on 10th Sept and will be hanging on as long as I possibly can before I buy my currency.

I will be changing £1000 to USD so for every 1 cent it rises I will get and extra £10. I am hoping that it rises to $1.85 by the time I have to buy my currency. I figure if I use Thomas Cook I will get $1.80. I have looked at Travelex but have to make sure my bank won't levy a charge and wipeout any gains.

This is all wishful thinking but nail biting nonetheless (need to get out more I think);)

I'm off on 24th Aug and hoping the spurt continues.

Thomas Cook seems the best bet. Order online rates and collect and pay in store.

My bank stung me with Travelex. I called to complain and got a refund of the charge but can't keep doing that. :-)

OK now I'm curious (and nosy)

Who's going to the USA, when and where?

    I'll start:

Flying to Chicago on 10 Sept and driving up to my Mum in Wisconsin,
driving to Ontario, Canada on 11 Sept, staying for a weeks fishing. Second week staying at the farm and shopping and generally lazing around, probably more fishing too.

So you only want about a gain of a cent per pound every day in the next month  Yesterday was a big day and it gained over a cent but thats fairly rare, it could happen every day on average but the chances I think are similar to flipping a coin for 10 tails

The recent rise is exceptional, for various reasons it can continue but it is still quite rare and therefore unlikely to continue at the same pace.

Can I have a pint of what you've been drinking? :)

If it gets to $1.85 I'll personally pay for not only your holiday but $10,000 / day spending money.

If i was you I'd change 1/2 the money now. Today. It's rose quickly so is bound to drop back shortly.

PS - I'm going to Cleveland to watch the PGA tour on Friday (stopping over 2 nights). Then am going to Phoenix / Palm Springs at the start of September for 8 nights :)
