Why change money anyway - surely almost all of your payments over there will be on credit card anyway? You wont be able to pay cash for hotels, hire cars, etc etc if booking in advance?

You do still need a certain amount of cash, for tipping, taxis and small incidental purchases if nothing else!

I dont normally change much if any money before I go,as I spend on PO credit card and withdraw on Nationwide debit card, BUT this year I have bought 2 lots from Crown currency one at 1.77 and the other at 1.57, which will cover most of my spends. including hotels as I book direct and only pay one night deposit.

Dont understand why you say hotels wont take cash. Hire car I pay for in pounds booked in the UK.

I won't be hiring a car and most of my "book in advance" stuff is already done. Hotels will go on card but I still need around $1000 cash due to the nature of my trip, most of the places I'll be visiting will prefer cash plus I'd rather have my budget (ie the cash I have with me is all there is to spend) than risk overspending by not knowing how much has gone on the card.

I realised I had some money set aside for something else but I'll be getting paid again before I need it so ordered £350 with Crown yesterday - getting just over $500 so at least I don't need to cry as much about not even getting $1000 for £700!

I'm just going to let you believe that, I think! :D
