  • 09:41 13May10 IFR-GBP/USD: Weighed Down by Larger-Than-Expected UK Trade Deficit

    LONDON, May 13

Cable has fallen by more than a quarter-cent to a 2-day low of 1.4798 on the back of March"s much larger-than-expected UK trade deficit. This ballooned to GBP 7.522bn, from an upwardly revised GBP 6.305bn in February. A more modest increase to GBP 6.4bn was forecast.

A good size sell order from a US name was flagged as a factor in sterling"s
earlier three-quarter cent drop from an intra-day high of 1.4917, ahead of the
    08:30GMT UK trade data.

It's been a bumpy old week!

Look on the brightside... I'm off to a beer festival tonight. Covington Maifest.

I'm not very good with this kinda stuff. Going on holiday to the states end of June. Should I exchange my cash now or wait till a few days before for the rate to maybe jump back up? Any reasons why it's dropping and reasons why it may go back up?

    thanks

I emigrated over to the US a year ago. i've been studying the $:£ interest rate for over 18 months. I'm still clueless on what is going to happen!

    Rule of thumb is -
change 1/2 now and 1/2 just before you go.

I'm going to America in July but won't have any money to change until I get paid at the end of this month (and even then that's only half the money I want to take, which I'll have when I get paid at the end of June) so I'm now terrified it's going to drop even further!

Oh well, though, nothing I can do if it does!

Why change money anyway - surely almost all of your payments over there will be on credit card anyway? You wont be able to pay cash for hotels, hire cars, etc etc if booking in advance?
