i think you need a new link and noot one that is nearly 3 years old. I think Gary has this entire peice printed and tucked under his pillow at night

Duh - the target is for ten years - therefore still relevant Sheepy.

If you are bored with that link, here is another more recent one about it (October 24, 2007).

Quote: A million off Incapacity Benefit: how achievable is Labour's target?
Since 1997, welfare reform has been a defining feature of the UK's Labour government. This article assesses the extent to which the new aspiration to reduce the number of incapacity benefit claimants by one million within 10 years is deliverable.

    http://cje.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/bem029v1

Or another even more recent link from themselves - (July 21, 2008).

Quote: The Government has set itself the ambitious aim of helping 1 million people off incapacity benefits.

I hope that makes you happier ;)

Trouble is the only people who get value for money is those who contrbute the least.
Labour made such a lash up of the welfare state in 1948 that it has never been properly thought out since.
pensions are rubbish because NI doesnt fund them and is nothing more than an alternate income tax. this falls in recessions at the same time benefits increase. not good really. only the left could think it up.:rotfl:

Surley thats why the ethos of insurance was started many moons ago!...it was meant as a co operative for farmers.... who pooled their money together to help other farmers who hit hard times
It has since evolved, into somthing that is now profit- making buisness, but the ethos is still to help the poorest and the unluckyest of people

Because you never know when it might be you!

Yes it was a bit like insurance but insurance is set up differently. eg dont pay into it dont benefit. Premiums cover the benefit.
Insurance companies also check whether patients are fit for work and I think the appeals processs is harder

To allow the NI system to work correctly it would probably need to be trebbled at least and I cant see the tax payer stumping up another 20% of salary. can you.
Who I am is not important. What I do is.

Yes i agree with you.....But the i..in NI stands for insurance,..its the same princible..a pot of money to help OTHER people when they end their working life or become ill.
If their is not enough money, either premiums go up..or the Gov makes cuts...TO balance the books.
ITS nothing more than a co-operative.
In the Uk we certainly do not pay enough per person for HEALTH or PENSION....i am not going to comment about BENEFITS....ITS A MINEFIELD.

I read aghast at ur treatment being forced to appeal etc
Also pretty dumbfounded by the way some people hijacked your thread for a purile argument, Im reading ESA threads on here as Ive just had a medical Im looking for practical advice and support and its dis-heartening when certin posters take over and fill the threads with B/S
Im Delighted to hear u won the case and have now got one weight off your shoulders, I'm sure sfter 6 months of fighting it you proberbly want to move on but Id encourage you to make complaints the system is obviously very flawed and its our system ! Complain the doctor that failed you, how many others did he fail ? Whats he's daily rate ? Is he up to the job obviously and he should be held accountable.

    Wishin a speedy recovery Cozza

  • If anyone else feels they were unfairly treated at the ATOS medical I would encourage you to mail the following at the house of LOrds The Countess of Mar and Lord Skelmersdale both who have tabled an ammendment calling into question ATOS. Its gotta be better than passively be annoyed bout it this forum I suppose

you can find both their their mailson

    theyworkforyou.com search for

  • I have just recently been to a tribunal and have successfully appealed against a decision made 6 months ago to refuse my ESA claim. This initial decision wa made by a "qualified healthcare professional" who turned out to be a thug employed by an agency(ATOS) whose sole purpose seems to be to lie, ignore facts, bully and threaten claimants into withdrawing claims. Don't be put off. Find someone to represent you and appeal. Go to the tribunal and hopefully you will be treated as well as I have been.

  • Healy you are very sweet & kind thank you ,but I am not sure it is a minority thats if I understand what you are saying correctly.
I have a big appeal tribunal coming up & fairly worried stressed as you can imagine, but luckily for me many years ago I had to go to one for an overpayment of 48.00 paid in Child benefit after my mum had written to say I was hospitalised sent my books back they sent payments that were paid straight into my a/c had no idea what for until I left hospital & saw my b/a balance, some weeks later got told I had to pay it back I disputed it it went to tribunal could we find that copy of that letter no on the day of the tribunal my mum entered the room put it in front of me oh you found it! 3mins must of been the quickest tribunal on earth,if you have the evidece try putting it in order you can win,...always write to the L/A DWP & TAX MAN & any one else a phone call is use less unless you ask for the person name & keep notes
