Can you try and think of the three dimensions of the bag in two dimensional terms? You know, like if you took the six sides of a dice it would unfold to make a cross, what shape would your bag make? That's what I do if I make patterns for things (get the basic shape down then worry about the dimensions once you understand its make-up). Mum also taught me to make that up in muslin before going any further, though I don't know if that would work with leather goods. Though fc will probably tell you that I'm talking cr&p and will in all likelihood be right
. Incidentally, parents are the only people I know (fc may also too), who sharpen their scissors. I have a thing about blunt scissors.
Your parents are right...flat shapes make a 3D shape.
To try out a leather bag shape, try it in a stiff canvas first. Must be something on the farm that you could use.
Yup, I have a scissor sharpener..no blunt scissors in my house.;) And lots of scissors including some scary sharp electric ones that cut cloth 10 layers deep.0 -

Thanks, she is that. The fabrics up close are out of this world. the most intricate florals dotted about with gun-toting chimps and top-hat wearing hunting dogs.
She did a textiles BA then slogged it out in commercial fashion graphics like yours truly before deciding she wasn't cut out for high-volume naff and going back for the MA. I'm envious of her creative freedom but not her printing bill!0 -
I read todays entry and it made me laugh out loud......more than the others.
Now I know I am a bit, how shall we say?, Disenfranchised (sic?) from Real Life.
It's a list of available jobs. Then I read it again thinking 'Now which one could I apply for?'' . Perhaps the Female relief officer (nights)?
As I know Maxes previous industry, it made me laugh even more (no disrespect...just laughing in a manic, irrational, OMG !!!!!! way) which made me wonder, do you (Max) think it appropriate to fess up what you sold at some point? It deff wasn't on The List.

Also, I admire your restraint in not adding comments to some of the jobs. You did add a comment to others.
Smuttier minds could have......

Female play support worker
Be a property professional (training course)
Female relief out of hours and sleep in workers0 -
This is my incentive dress
It only comes in a size 10.
I am sure that all you ladies would look very fit in that dress.
ETA: not at the same time of course, you would never be seen wearing the same thing.

It is all very good talking about personal experience and feelings (always going to be a vote winner with the ladies). However (putting on the male hat here), what is needed are solutions.
Saying that things need to change is a weak conclusion reminiscent of polititicians IMHO.Favourite hobbies: Watersports. Relaxing in Coffee Shop. Investing in stocks.

It'll soon go back on topic....long threads can meander and go off into other chit chat sometimes.
You can comment on the actual blog too.
What I found interesting about the latest instalment to the blog was that list of jobs and seeing how many of them are in the public sector. I get that the public sector needs and will always need certain types of staff, whether doctors, nurses, police, people who work in job centres, support 24 hour phone lines or whatever. But we all know that the public sector will need to make cutbacks, so why is it still recruiting for a College Respect Coordinator or a Composting in Schools officer? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
