A very good point. Surely if a school wants to get involved in composting they just need a compost heap? Schools have janitors and/or groundsmen so no probs.
And why does a college need a "College Respect Coordinator"? Surely it's the job of the teachers to instill "respect"?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
...You can comment on the actual blog too.
I have started to try to create my own, new, Wordpress/com blog this morning, but (as yet) the confirmation email hasn't come through ... always a nuisance that is.
It's been on my "to do" list for 2 years and Max' blog has become the catalyst for getting round to it.
Max' blog is on .com - all mine I host myself on domain names, so while it's the same name, it's a different ballgame.... so I need to sort it... in fact, I'll chase that email up.0 -

Might be something to do with this neanderthal style of thinking... or not.0 -
Well, I looked them both up. The College Respect job spec is:
To work with all staff and students to embed the College Respect Policy and to assist in providing a safe and pleasant learning environment for students, staff and visitors.
I have to say, I'm still none the wiser.
Here's something about how the Composting in School scheme works:

I'm still not convinced that they are real jobs. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Who cares, so long as they pay real money, and preferably to someone like Max who would do his utmost to develop the job into something that would be of benefit to the school and community.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Don't disagree with that bogoff-babe, am just concerned that whoever gets them will find that they are at the front of the queue if and when the government starts reining its spending in.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I think we will be waiting a long time for public sector jobs to start being pruned, given that it will increase the unemployment figures.

The public sector are the only ones with any money and so able to employ.
Pretty much all business are on their knees with no cash to employ anyone, busily laying off as many as they can to reduce expenses. So the public don't have any money either.
Which given that the public sector (which "have" the money) get all their money from the public and from businesses, means that things can only get more "interesting" for GB PLC.
In other news I've just found a very rare local job for which I could be qualified to do, only to discover that it's got a closing date one day before the date it went onto Monster.com.
That's handy then...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

What's the annual salary for The Respect Job?
It was a few years back, but I recall a job advertised in The Guardian for a 'Walking to Schools initiative somethingoranother' and pay was £37k. London based.
Perhaps connected to the walking bus idea?
It was being touted around when DD was at SE London State Primary.
Now, had the LEA let DD go to nicer school around corner (3 mins walk) and other nearby kids too, then the job wouldn't have had to exist as more mums would have been able to walk kids in.
Instead, the Church policy meant Mums from 3 miles away drove up the hill to drop off (as they were OK within their souls about the compulsory church attendance for 6 months to get their kids in) and, I, who (wrongly now I look back) wouldn't do something I felt was hypocrytical, didn't.
So we drove past each other every am, clogging up the streets.
Therefore, someone up high decided we needed a co-ordinator to get us not to ferry our kids around by car on the school run.0 -

Just had a look. It pays about £20k (scale goes from a little under to a little over). The composting one pays approx £22k (same issue with scales). I don't know why, but I'm somewhat amused that composting pays better than respecting.
Edited to add: Incidentally fc, did the scheme to get everyone walking work once you had a coordinator? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
