Hire Purchase of Car with wrong Vehicle Reg on Documents

<snip>
Check the VIN number listed on the logbook against the VIN number on the car, this can typically be found either at the bottom of the windscreen on the outside, or in the engine bay, either on a little plate or stamped onto the metal somewhere.
There is a possibility that rather than give you the wrong numberplates they actually gave you the wrong car.

But where is the car you are paying for? I think you need to set your tame lawyer on the trail of recovering your property.
Please do let us know how you get on.0 -
Yes it was Arnold Clark's mistake, and technically you were driving with false plates the whole time which could get both you and the dealer in trouble.
Glad you have it sorted now even if it was a hassle. They should've just replaced the plates without giving you any grief. I would still be worried about the competence of that dealer, and would check one more thing if I were you:

Sorry to alarm you further, but better to be safe rather than sorry.
Hi there Lum, yes i already checked the vin number and it is the correct one which is on the documents, thank god. Seems to be just plain lack of concentration on behalf of arnold clark. I do understand mistakes happen but this is the sort of one that shouldn't have as it could have caused a lot of bigger problems. Thanks very much for your advice! A least u have the brains to understand my point unlike a lot of other people on this forum.0 -
If these cars are shipped, and registered in batches, then the number plates made up in batches and fitted to the cars, I wonder who is driving round in the same model of car, bought from Arnold Clark at the same time, with your number plate on, and if they've noticed it's one out as well?0

This is a good point. Keep any documentation you may have as to this error as you may need it if you start getting the other guy's speeding tickets and parking tickets.0 -

Very good point. Well I got arnold clark to print me out a signed and dated letter saying they had changed the plates from the incorrect ones to the correct ones. So to cover all my bases. Thanks again Lum and mikey72.0
